Pregnancy Diabetes / Pre-eclampsia?
Im currently 35 weeks pregnant, last week during my antenatal visit with the midwife - she found my urine was really high in sugar and also my blood pressure was high (145/90) and in earlier appointments it was slowly going higher.. she referred me to the hospital the next day for a Glucose Tolerance test to test for diabetes, in which i have not had the results back for as of yet. I had my appointment with her again today and I noticed that over the last few days my ankles have become quite swolen, and this time when testing my urine she said 'yes thats normal' - high in protein (i never knew that) and she said that i have always been high in protein. she explained to me i may be at risk of pre-eclamsia and if i have any headaches or more swelling to go straight to the hospital - this has really scared me now.. looking it up on the net today and seeing that the common symptons are all what i have.does any one have any advice?

I had protein in my urine for my first pregnancy and never had preaclmpsia with the first, the second I had gestaonial diabetes that never showed up and had a very difficult labor and delivery baby had grown to 11lbs (he was ypoglycemic when he was born) Just take it one day at a time at least if they have to deliver you soon your baby will be in the healthy range.
Just try to relax (almost impossible).
Take it easy and don't do anything strenous.
Make sure that your midwife has great referrals for OBGYN.
Make sure you have a back up plan for delivery if need be!!
Good luck!!
BE CAREFUL!! I had pre-eclampsia with my last 2 babies. It is scary stuff. I would try to lay down as much as possible (on your left side) and stay relaxed. Are you being monitored every other day? My doctor did that. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you keep an eye on things. If ANYTHING feels wrong go to the hospital and have it checked out. I had to have my son 4 weeks early because of the high blood pressure. With my daughter (16 months ago) I all of the sudden got extremely swollen. I was terrified. Went to the hospital and was induced IMMEDIATELY. My blood pressure had skyrocketed over night from 150/95 to 158/123. They were worried about seizures and possibly a coma.
You know what the warning signs are. If you are worried or just want to be checked out go in. Bug them until you know you and the baby are safe.
God bless you and Good luck
I have to have the glucose tolerance test done in a few weeks..based on no evidence happening in this pregnancy. The midwife mentioned to me gestational diabetes..And that got me worrying but im not anymore..i have a warm bath every night and great food..and if anything happens.im doing my best. as you are.!!!! However i produce big babies with my last baby being born weighting 10lb 9oz. Please dont worry. The only time you should be worrying is if they dont keep an eye on you. The swollen ankles can be normal at 35 weeks..keep your feet raised whenever or where ever possible. Lap this time you have up.cos' your gonna have lots to do when your babys here. Best of luck..and take care .Zoe
I developed pre eclampsia when I was 38 weeks. I had gone in for my last check up and they said I had protein in my urine and they were going to induce labor. If they sent you home try to relax and eat fruits and veggies, drink lots of water. If you see anything getting worse go immediately to the hospital because that can be very dangerous for you and the baby. My cousin lost her baby a few days before she was due for a c section because of pre eclampsia. We all say the doctors should have taken the baby out when they knew she was developing this, thats what they are suppose to do, that's why I was induced. Goodluck, and I would say see another doctor to see what they say you should do. Some doctors are just lazy and don't want to take the proper precautions.
