Christmas toys for a newborn?
I'm thinking about Christmas presents for everyone (yeah I've left it late to start shopping I know - it all has to be done online anyway!) and I want to get my baby some little things as well - he might be too little to understand but I don't want him left out of the family present opening!
What little toys/gifts would be suitable for a newborn? Some people have said little toys, mobiles etc. Or just clothes and practical things as he'll be too little to get much out of toys just yet? Any ideas?
Answers:
Just some cute little things would be great for him. Off the top of my head, here's some good ideas:
-Those bands that go around their wrists or ankles that rattle when they move
-A toy that goes on his crib
-A colorful mat with the bars that go across with toys hanging down
-A couple cute outfits and maybe some slippers or booties
Aww that's great that you are including him :) and an early congratulations to you and yours. I also think it's very important to include your child, no matter how small. I think a new outfit would be a great idea. I always loved stuffed animals and little blankets when i was young.or so my mother has said. honestly, you really cant go wrong lol. i personally lovelovelove baby shoes so i'd probably go with an outfit and a stuffed animal! best of luck to you and your family
silver rattle engraved with name and first christmas, and date of birth.
u can go on toysrus.com and u can look at all the toys according to age.it worked great for me when my daughter was little
Anything that you wanted but didn't get at your baby shower. Swing, bouncy seat, exercauser, etc. Otherwise, babys r us is packed with cute items. And don't forget that he grow into anything you get, so if you pick up toys for the age group of 6 months, in 6months he'll be playing with it. So the best idea is to take advantage of the christmas sales and pick up some toys for the months of come. My friend had her son in Jan. and never though about registering for toys at her baby shower or asking for them as gifts at Christmas. she ended up spending a lot at one time to get him toys in June.
Cot or pram mobiles.
Congrats. Whatever you want to get your baby is fine. Believe me, he/she won't know or care. Babies just want love.
Congrats! I remeber when my daughter celebrated her first christmas, she was 2 months old. I felt the same way, so I got her some educational, colorful toys out of toys-r-us. They have the cutest little things. Don't forget a winter coat and some blankets because winter is right around the corner. Even though Your little bundle of joy might not understand at that moment, when he/she look back at the pics you take, they will enjoy it better. My daughter surely did and she's 6 now.
Let him sleep through Christmas, next year he can enjoy it next year.
The fisher price crib aquarium was great for our daughter. Hmm, also some rattles (they make cute ones from fisher price) and a toy for the car seat if you don't have one. You will need to buy toys over the year because they get busy really quickly lol, so you could start to shop ahead for toys like 6 months and up, or wait and leave it until the time comes. We bought a lot of "practical" stuff for our daughter too. Clothes, toy box, blanket and stuff like that too. Good Luck!
Congratulations! if i were you, i WOULDNT get stuff for a new born - other people will do that, and then you will find when baby is 6 months old, he/she has nothing to play with. So look online and get toys suitable for babies 6 months - 1 year old and then put them away for later on next year.
Get a couple of little bits for this year if you must, but babies soon collect toys, believe me! In two years you will be drowning in a sea of toys!
a camera and photo of the both of you as he will not have any memories of his first Christmas it is something he can treasure as he grows up and he will always be able to see just how much love was surrounding him on his first Christmas. Hope it's a great time for you all.
i had my daughter on the 2nd of december last year and i did not buy her anything cause she was so young and everyone else brought her little things, but something like a play mat.
Toys with bright lights or colors.
Congratulations on your new born
hes a few ideas, i hope you find them useful:
Birth certificate holder
baby brush-for hair
Digital camera- to take photos
Baby photo album
you can buy a plaster cast to cast there hand or foot in and scribe the year on so they can keep it later in life.
Presents dont have to be what they will use immediatly, they will have all this for later in life
I hope you find this useful
The best thing I got my little guy was one of those Night Time Pooh Bears. The one that is like a Glo-Worm. It comforted him when he was an infant and now that he is almost 3 he uses it as a flashlight when he makes forts.
Also, get the Baby's 1st Xmas ornament. They have one for 2nd, 3rd & 4th Xmas too. This can be a little heirloom for them for years to come.
Your little one won't know what is going on this Xmas so don't over do it.trust me once they are 2 or 3 then the toys will be a flowing for the next 10-12 years. Your wee one will probably have a better time sitting watching the lights blink on the tree than any gift you could ever buy.
It's always great to get the big toys you may not have yet.like an excersaucer or jumperoo. It will be a while before he will be able to use them but at least you'll have them :)
two of my kids were born a christmas n i had the same prob so i just brought keep sakes,,naming bangle first curl ant tooth keepers,,they may not be fun the the kids love them as they grow up as most of the things they have for there first xmas get broken ect,,, hope i have helped n good luck..
Well I wouldnt go mad, it's not like they understand what is going on, last xmas my son would have been 4months, we didn't bother, we thought we would save it for this year. Mobiles are good or something you can lye them under that flashes and sings are a good distraction for them, failing that vests and babygrows (they grow out of them so quickly)
I havent started xmas shopping yet either, arghh!

my daughter was only 3 months old last christmas.i got her clothes and stuff for her new bedroom x x x she loved the lights on the christmas tree tho x x x
Congratulations! If I was in your position, I think i would buy toys that were more suited to an older baby. Because your baby is going to be born in December, there will be no more celebrations during the year, so buy for the future.
I would advise to get whatever is on your baby's checklist. Whatever you'll need straight away when your baby's born. Baby is not gonna understand or remember anything but if you get smth reasonable that will make your life much easier or happier especially in early days.
I have a little girl who's going to be 3 months in 4 days
I think that a present that will be a memory of their first Christmas is a good choice. Newborns will grow out of appropriate toys very quickly so unless you are planning on a large family I would recommend you let someone else buy toys as presents.
Again clothes will quickly become too small and a 'cute' outfit will soon be relegated to the storage box or lent to friends.
I would recommend that you put together a good quality 'My First Christmas' scrapbook. You can give the book as a present and then add the pictures and cards, etc later. Our children are age 9 and 11 now and they love looking at pictures when they were babies, their old bedroom, the house, grandad, pets . all that stuff they won't remember.
