What is vomiting and purple lips a sign off?

my son is 18 months old and for the past week he has been vomiting profusely and his lips are sometimes purple in colour. He has been off his food and his sleep is continually broken but otherwise he is ok.

Answers:
my son was the same a few months ago, vomiting, blue lips, temperature! it turned out to be a stomache bug that was going around and the doc told me to keep giving him calpol. within a few days he was fine again!
take your son to be checked out just incase its something more serious.

i hope everything is ok!
Emergency room asap! There's something wrong..
He needs to go see someone NOW. I'm surprised you didn't take him in after a few days of vomiting.

Lips turning purple/blue is a sign of a lack of of oxygen. If he's vomitting to the point where he can't breath, he needs to get checked out.

Especially if he's not eating OR sleeping well, he really needs to get into see someone NOW.
see a doctor
Take him to the doctor the purple lips could be a sign of poor circulation of blood.
I would take your son to the ER ASAP! that sounds very dangerous.
Good god, take him to a doctor!!!
I think blue lips is a sign of lack of oxygen. Maybe you should take him to the Dr
My good God get that child to a doctor before he develops brain damage from lack of oxygen.
His lips are blue because of the vomiting and as he is ill his body temperature may be cold. I hope he has been seen by a doctor as a week is a long time for a wee mite of this age to be ill with this. If you've not taken him then at least phone for advice, don't take any chances.
Oh dear. that sounds really bad - something is very wrong. A and E would be a very good idea - hope everything is ok.
My god whats wrong with you?,He 's been like this for a week?
Dial 999/911 now..i cant believe you waited a week!
PURPLE LIPS?? You need to get him to the Emergency Room now! Purple lips means he is not getting enough oxygen! That could result in brain damage or even death!! You need to get him looked at now! Don't wait! Purple lips is a VERY dangerous sign!
Get down to A & E IMMEDIATELY! He is seriously ill! Vomiting and being off his food is worryiong in itself, but purple/ blue lips are a sign of either oxygen deprivation or a heart condition!
You might want to get him checked by his doctor. Purple lips usually indicate lack of oxygen so it possible he is holding his breath when he throws up OR that he is aspirating vomit which can lead to infection. My only sources it that I have a child on a ventilator with a trach in her neck and I know purple lips indicate lack of oxygen.
This has been going on for a week? How can you say he's otherwise "OK." Purple lips means lack of oxygen. This can result in brain damage. You need to take your baby to the ER as of 6 days ago! NOW!
He is probably dehydrated. As far as the color change it indicates either an Oxygen saturation drop or a heart rate drop. Sometimes the gagging/ throwing up can cause the heart rate to drop condsiderably. He needs to go to the ER now.
This is a situation that needs the most urgent attention as you have been advised earlier get the child to hospital NOW,the purple lips as mentioned could mean Oxygen Starvation and also a few other problems even poisoning, nobody on here can give you a proper diagnosis so please seek emergency help.
I hope everything works out well.
I think you'd be better off taking him to the ER ASAP!! He's probably dehydrated and could have aspiration pneumonia (he has vomit in his lungs). The purple lips are a sign of lack of oxygen!! At this age, things can turn bad VERY quickly!! If they haven't already!! GO GO GO!!! Get off the PC and take care of that baby!!!!
have you taken him to doctors my daughter had this she had gastroenteritis (not sure of spelling!) her lips went blue because of low oxygen and dehydration she had to go in hosp to be on a dip! don't want to scare you it might not be the same thing this was just my experience you need to seek medical advice iknow you have already taken him but go back again

hope he's soon well again take care
999 !! or casualty i hope you are not sat there reading this all the way thru!

it would be worth getting him checked out at the hosiptal, even to put your own mind at rest,i have a 8 year old daughter and when she was a baby her lips used to turn blue for no reason and like yourself i was worried sick and brought her to be checked but i was told that it would stop in time, and it did.to be on the safe side get it checked.
call the doctor -Now , and tell them what you just told us.they will be the best ones to give advice and let you know wheather to bring him in. dont wait any longer
