I plugged the data you gave me into an ovulation calculator and if your cycle is 28 days and you luteal phase is 14 days ( time from ovulation to first day of menstrual period you should be ovulating today! Which corresponds to your cramping!
The best time to have intercourse for conception are the few days leading up to ovulation to the day of ovulation. Sperm can live any where from 3 to 7 days and the egg has a life span of about 24 hrs to MAYBE 48 hrs. The sperm needs to be already present by the time the egg starts to come down.
I would have intercourse today and tomorrow for sure if you are trying to conceive this month. If not this month at least you know you have a cycle of 28 days with a 14 day luteal phase!
Keep in mine woman ovulate on average 10 out of 12 months in a year. Some months you may have a cycle with no ovulation. It is normal.

yeah you could be everyone women experience ovulation pains differently .. mine are short and sharp. good luck .. just have fun with it

Pain on one side sounds like ovulation.
A tip I have, that worked for me both times, is to lay with your legs in the air after sex, to help the sperm on their way.
