Sterlising bottles?
My boy's 1 next week, can I stop sterlising now and give him cows milk or shall I wait the week?
Answers:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies not be given whole cow's milk for the first 12 months of life). There are many reasons for this, but the most important is related to the iron needs of a child. Iron is an essential part of red blood cells. When the body does not have enough iron to make red blood cells "anemia" (or decreased level of red blood cells) will develop. Normally, babies are born with enough iron in their body for the first few months of life. However by 3-4 months, extra iron is needed. This extra iron should come from the child's diet and this is why iron-fortified formula is recommended for infants who are not breast-fed.
I would continue Sterlizing bottles until he is 2 months old.
It can't do any harm to wait a week, can it? Make sure it's full fat cows milk
Candef stop sterilising now and give him cow's milk, but u need to make sure he's got a good diet with lots of vitamins if u're stopping baby milk
you will be fine to stop now, i bet you don't sterilise everything like plates, spoons, cups, any way, just make sure bottles are cleaned properly. milk is fine make sure its full cream though, and happy birthday to your little one.
I wouldn't suddenly stop sterilising his bottles but ease it in gently and the same with cow's milk. Try him with full fat first if he takes to it then that's OK, but if like my son he is intolerant then choose an alternative.
Won't hurt at all. I started mine with half formula/half milk bottles for the first couple of weeks, just to avoid any intestinal distress (belly ache) and so the change in the taste wouldn't be so drastic. If he's 1 year old, you might want to think about breaking him of the bottle altogether! good luck!
you can stop when they are 1 but make sure you wash still in very hot soapy water - cow milk is fine from 1 but you may want to wean him on to it gradually
I personally carried on sterilising out of habit as they are still so young and avoiding bugs is a good idea. You don't have to be so meticulous as he needs to buils up his immune system but still keep his bottles etc separate for a while.
You can take him off the bottle now and put him on whole milk. You do not have to do this gradually. My 14mth old did not like whole milk.He just started taking it a mth ago.He did'nt like the taste of it,so i mix it w/ovaltine.Don't worry if at first he does'nt drink it as long as he is getting calcium from other things
like cheese and yogurt he will be fine. You can also try mixing it w/water the first few times.
You can, if you want.
My daughter is 15 months old and I still give her formula. She gets whole milk too. Both in a cup with a lid and straw.
babies crawl on the floor .pick up all sorts of things and put them in their mouth it builds up their immune sytem. stop sterilising . as for the milk mix some formula with vows milk, if he is upset by cows milk goats milk is excellent especially if he has excema, and available in supermarkets
Hi,
I sterilized bottles till my kids were 6 months old and no you can't give cows milk till they are a year old because of anemia I found out the hard way my one daughter I gave milk to at 9 months and she became anemic. It will take there iron away I would give formula till they are a year old then start to intrudes milk.

I Just Found Myself Worrying About This That And The Other.
Does Your Little One Eat Cereal If You Are Worried About The Milk Not Agreeing With His Tummy, Try Cows Milk On His Cereal Instead Of A Full Bottle Of Milk And See How He Goes.

My daughter is turning 1 at the end of September. I have never sterilized her bottles. Run them through the dishwasher and/or wash them with really hot water. They will be fine. I have decided to wait on cow's milk until after my daughter's 1 year check up. I'm sure he will be fine if you give him cow's milk now. If you do watch for allergic reactions. Also make sure he is getting all the nutrients he needs, a good balanced diet.

you can if u want
my 3 were all on cows milk before they were one! At this time I stopped steaming my bottles and washed them up normally or put them in the dishwasher! If you are worried rinse the teat in boiling water before you give it them to kill any unwanted germs
You can stop sterilising, and can give full fat cow's milk, or some brands do something called 'follow on milk' which is meant for older babies.
No doubt this makes me a bad mother but I never sterilised any of my childrens' things. I brest-fed exclusively for different periods for different reasons so bottles were not used until they were quite big - at least 7 months old (in fact my sons only had feeder cups and no bottles at all). They were all big healthy babies - 9lbs 13oz, 10lbs 8oz and 8lbs 4oz - and are now healthy kids of 15, 11 and almost 9. Our home was always clean though not sterile (I wish!) and they seemed to do fine. In fact, since then my midwife has told me that they are probably more resistant to germs because I didn't sterilise everything they came into contact with! But, as I said, no doubt this makes me a bad mother. lol
you can now a week wont make any difference, hes already having cows milk on creals? its great to not have to steralise!!
People need to relax a tad more. I don't think natures germs and the immune system have a calender. Ignoring the week is fine by me, I did with y daughter and she is a wonderfully healthy 15 year old dancer while as strong as an ox.
I have got two of the healthiest children ever and with both they were on cows mild and I stopped sterlising at 6 months.I did have a dishwasher howver which obviously clean things really well and they are practically sterile when they come out of there.
You can stop sterilising when they are 12 months but i am not sure when you can give cows milk but if you decide too then try and use organic instead.
