Stupid Cravings!?
I'm 29 weeks pregnant and finding it really hard to resist eating plaster from my walls!! The thought of it is making my mouth water!
Have you had or know anyone who had weird cravings?

Hi byedabye -
First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy! Secondly, you sound like you are suffering from a relatively rare eating condition called Pica. Pica, a craving for non-nutritional, non-food items, could herald the lack of some necessary vitamin or mineral in your blood.
Do not give in to your craving, as it could cause health problems for you and your baby. Okay, are you resisting? Good. Now, pick up the phone and call your doctor or nurse practitioner and tell them about your craving. They may find that you need extra iron or some other mineral. At the very least, they could give you some much needed emotional support to help you resist eating your walls!
Good luck to you and your baby. :-)

That's really really wierd!! lol Let us know if it tastes good? lol lol
my mum liked beetroot in rice pudding!!
When my mum was pregnant with me she had a craving for coal. My cravings were not unusual with my children, they consisted of Coca cola, mars bars, curry and dry bread. Dont know if your craving is healthy though i wouldnt have thought so, get in touch with your midwife if at all concerned. Good luck with the pregnancy xx
When my ex got pregnant (unfortunately we only discovered that she was when we lost it), not only did she have a craving for Pot Noodles, but I did as well. I must have empathised with her as neither of us liked them before and we've disliked them since.
Well my fist pregnacy was ok but my second was eating croyons red ones where my favorite and dog biscutes the black ones.Ewwww the though of eating it now yuk
Yes. There were many times while my wife was pregnant that I would wake up to wet exhilarating sensation. What was it? My wife was licking my butt hole. It was the darnedest craving I ever heard of.
Yes!! everytime my mom gets pregnant. I think most psychologists would tell that this is normal for a woman to have these "weird" cravings in ther early stage of pregnancy. So it is normal for you to have this. But eating plaster i think is not good food for you and for your baby... lucky my mom asked my dad to look for a TURNIP WITH SEEDS!! isn't it weird? Congrats for your baby... please stop eating these plaster.. might poison you and your baby..
my werid craving was chewing on rubber bands.
my mother told me when she had my brother she had no cravings at all but the one night she got up in the middle of the night ate a whole family sized block of chocolate and then went back to bed .. the next day she gave birth and with me all she craved was tomatoes on toast.. its weird cause that is my favorite food to this very day . heehee with my last pregnancy I craved cereal .. like coco pops, honey smacks and fruit loops all I would eat would be bowls of cereal with milk.. I new I was desperate when I started grabbing hand fulls out of the box ( which normally I would think is strange) but I was hiding it like it was some sort of crime!!
There is a pregnancy disorder called "Pica". It causes the pregnant woman to crave things like dirt. In your case it is plaster. Check with your doctor, and DO NOT eat the plaster! lol I would make an appt with him ASAP and discuss with him the cravings you are having. Good luck with your new baby
I had a friend that craved the smell of soil. She didn't eat it (thank god) but got all excited if she smelled it somewhere!
Tinned pears and beef crisps together! Only wanted them in middle of the night though!
with me it was sherbet and cucumbers lol
I had some good cravings - SATSUMAS - tons and tons of them (quite literally). BUT - the weird one was me desperately trying to resist licking dirty potatoes. The dusty/ soil smell made my mouth water every time I was peeling them. In the end, I had to get my hubby to do them as I was getting to the point where I thought I really wouldn't resist and didn't think this craving was very hygienic.
datis kina weirdbut not unusual 4 a pregnant woman. but im at least glad u r not eating them.
With our first child my wife craved anything tomato (Soup, pasta sauce, tomatoes on toast).
With our second child she fancied curry and lager (what a result!!). Of course I had to help as I couldn't let her suffer this on her own being the caring husband I am!
My mum craved chip shop vinegar when she was carrying me and have heard many tell of cravings for coal.
Plaster, Interesting. How much will it cost to have the house replastered come the birth (ha, ha).
Hope all goes well.
This is not an unusual condition. Talk with your doctor about it - you could be nutritionally deficient.
OK I'm about 21weeks and I'm going to admit i love the smell of damp washing and would give anything for some ... mud!!!!
i told my hubby and he thinks ive gone crazy but i swear every time i look at my garden i just wanna eat the mud!!
of cause im not but its a strong feeling.
im also craving tin tomatoes and pork pies which im eating all the time to help take my mind off the mud LOL the joys of having a baby.
I'm gonna speak to my doctor at my next appointment maybe you should do the same .
good luck hunni x x x x
What is it you like the feel of. Perhaps you could do with something crunchy and hard to chew. Try crusty bread to see if that satisfies. I've heard of some weird cravings but this is the strangest. Good Luck with your pregnancy.
My mum ate toilet paper when she was expecting me and my sister (Im a twin!) I’ve also had pregnant friends enjoying mustard and ice cream desert, gherkin and HP sandwiches, chocolate spread and olives on Ryvita. Another friend even enjoyed my burnt to a crisp home made lasagna that I forgot was in the oven for 4 hours, so much so she made me cook another one for her, this time requesting I leave it in the oven even longer! Mad! That probably tasted a lot worst than plaster from a wall. Good luck honey, eat whatever you like, to an extent try and avoid bleach and other detergents or anything else that may cause harm! And last but not least…enjoy being pregnant, it soon goes from cravings to sleepless, exhausting nights and I know which one I would prefer! X
just make sure u speak to ur doctor or midwife the next time u go lol my friend had a strange craving in her first pregnancy it was for the gum on eviopes at christmas she made sure she was at peoples houses when they were writing their cards so she could lick the envelopes for them lol wierd
im 17 nearly 18 weeks and i keep thinking about biting into a raw fish with the skin on,everytime i walk past them in asda i have to stop myself from picking one up and bitting it! this is wierd as i don't even like fish!! i heard that sertain cravings can mean your lacking in sertain vitamins etc, for example: craving oranges means you need vitimin c. maybe there's a chemical in plaster that your body needs!!
You are experiencing pica! When pregnant women crave non-edible substances like plaster, chalk, dirt or glue. Whatever you do, don't give in to your cravings when they are weird like that. Eating plaster would be harmful to your baby. You need to speak with your OB about this and see what they recommend.
I can't help it- This is so funny-lol:) I just picture little bite marks outta the walls- Poor thing. I'm currently pregnant 11 weeks with number two and I haven't yet, but with my first I craved bleach! It wasn't that I wanted to taste it (although if I did, of course I wouldn't) and it wasn't the smell in the bottle. I would bleach the HELL outta my whites then, right when the got outta the dryer- I would take in huge breaths of the wonderful scent! lol. I also loved the smell of gasoline. I loved fueling my car up! Pregnant women go through some strange stuff, huh?!
Frozen chocolate (Cadburys caramel was best) but always at 3 in the morning. I used to drink bread sauce and I had to put mustard on everything
Doctors say it's normal to crave these things, but normal doesn't mean it's ok, I knew someone who craved chalk and ajax!!! she never ate it though. I also read some where I think on babycenter.com that something could be wrong if you crave "non food" things so check it out for yourself and ask your doctor. I also craved slight chalky things, like thick protein shakes.
Vindaloo curry sauce with a spoon like soup. This was replaced by a constant urge for bacon and mushroom sandwiches & crunchy nut cornflakes. But no major ones.
My mum had the urge for coal think she actually sucked on a few apparentley.
