Is this a good tip?
If you are having problems trying to get your kids to learn to read how about putting on a dvd then put the subtitles on and get them to read along with it. Do you think it would work?
Answers:
you could just read with them
No. The kids would just ignore the subtitles.
The only thing that will work is to read with them.
Yeah but its lazy. You should try a reward scheme, for example, if they read a whole book they can stay up half an hour late, or if they read for an hour they can have a biscuit. Or just buy exciting books.
it would work
try making your kids to read the newspaper or a book
sounds like a plan but how do you know they're reading instead of repeating what's said? Muting the audio seems mean.I dunno, but there's some merit to your idea. I learned by reading the newpaper along with my mom.
Depends on the DVD. If it's a bit too action packed and fast, then no. The kids would be more interested in the action. Read a book to them, while running your finger along the words as you read. It would be the easier way.
Kids are more prone to concentrate on pictures more than words if they appear together. One thing in front of them at a time is the only way they learn
Thats a good idea. My 8yr old daughter reads pretty good. I used to have her read teletext with me. Needs abit more concentration on spelling though.
I would say that its better to sit the child on your lap with a book. Read it to them while running your finger under the words as you read them. this way you teach them to read while have a special close time with them - whilst the tv is off! You can adapt your pace to suit the child, go back over favourite bits, ask questions and so on. When the child has reached their attention threshold you can then do something else with them (maybe watch a favourite dvd together).
It couldn't hurt, but take into consideration the subtitles are not always accurate. Different companies make "toys" that are veered to teaching kids to learn to read, but can become quite costly and it is not guaranteed your child will be interested in the least. PBS has done wonders in helping me teach my child to read as well. Nick Jr. as well as the Disney channel have programs on to help children learn to read too. By the way, how old are your children? If they are younger this could help, but if they are older ( maybe about 9+) this approach might only offend them. If the latter is the case, I would consider talking to their teacher to get some ideas as to what he/she might think.
Good luck.
Im not sure that would be such a good idea as their eyes would be drawn to what was happening and the subtitles would probably be too fast. Start with pictures with the words underneath and then give them the words themselves, and practise with them it's more important to give them lots of support and praise I think. It's also important to remember Children learn at their own pace so dont force them to do too much at the one time because they will begin to see learning as a chore.
good good very good do one thing just put your four fingures in your pusy i mean vagina & laugh i n front of me & in the same position go in market place do same thing ..
if u want to go pee than your father will open his mouth just put inside it . . . god bless u ..
Putting on Subtitles over an English language track is a great way to help kids who are learning to spell put words togather but once your kid can read I don't think they'll get any book-skills from a DVD, it's just too easy to tune out the words. If you want to get your kids on books you have to find them books that will capture their interrests.
personally i would read with my children rather than them sat infront of a tv every child will ignore the subtitles as they will prob not make much sense to the child if you put subtitles up in spanish/dutch does that mean that you are going to learn that language? no. so what makes you think that the english version would help your child read? sorry just makes no sense to me
No they will not know what words go with which written word. Your job as a parent is to help in the best way possible. First step get the eyes checked. Second talk to the teacher for the best way to help
DVD is a no as they wont pay any attention to the word the only way is for you to read with them.
Read with your kids. Bedtime stories are great. You can do the subtitle thing during their regular tv time as a bonus, but I wouldn't rely on it. Good Luck!
No kids need to learn the sounds letters make and DVDs aren't going to do it.
Maybe once in a while but kids usually just ignore the subtitle and they are not always accurate. Also they might be too advanced.
They usually talk too fast on most DVD's. Just read to your children every night before bed. They will get their love of reading from you. Also they can try reading to you with those beginner books, like Hop on Pop, Red Fish Blue Fish, Green Eggs and Ham, etc.
No. A PERSON needs to sit down with them and work with them to help them learn to read. Parking them in front of flashing words on the TV won't do much good.
PLUS...subtitles or closed captioning often have mispellings, no punctuation, etc.
Not really. Its best to sit down and read books with them
i would get them books with there favourite cartoons in it,i got my boys batman, xmen, etc, and they love to read them or me to read them, tv is not a good way
I thought that once but the the subtitles are very quick. It's more fun to read with them and spend time with them.
