Baby Formula
Recommended food is still Milk until 6 months, but if he is still hungry you can mix up some baby rice or even low sugar rusk and try him on that!

But surly you should know all this already if he is 5 months old!!
and you are a caring parent!
baby can foods or a mushed up rusk in warm milk .
Baby rice cereal, apple sauce, vanilla pudding.
It is recommended by the world health organisation that a baby should be exclusively fed on milk until 6 months of age. At that point solids should be introduced.
You could start weaning him, starting with very small amounts of pureed food. Ideally starting with just one food such as baby rice or pear. But if you are not sure, speak to your health visitor/doctor first and carry on with just formula or breast milk for the time being.
The answer is your natural milk
hi you will get all sort of answers but basically your the mum you should know what is best for your baby. Most baby starts on
Baby rice, mashed fruit and veg, just dont add salt to anything. Baby still needs their milk, whatever it is breast, formula e.t.c I am sorry to read about the birth of your son and the death of your mum on the same day, I can imagine your sons birthday is going to be bitter sweet day. Do you have any other family members who could help you get through this pain and help you with advice for your son? Good luck
if you have already started weaning and have tried rusks and rice the next things to try are fruit and veggies, a hand blender is good and they only cost around a fiver, I fed my last 3 on baby jars but my 18 month has had all fresh food blended and eats everything . diffrent fruits like pear apple peach mixed with a bit of baby rice to thicken it up is a good one the main thing is to try a few things together and gradually add diffrent tastes and keep trying their tastebuds change all the time!
A good book to try is Annabel Karmels baby and toddler meal planner which is probably at your local library.
Hope that helps.
I am sorry to hear about your mum my mum died when i was 15 so i know its hard especially when you have a young baby hope you have family who help you out.
Hiya, I'm really sorry to hear about your Mum, and it still must hurt lots. As for your little boy - try him with some baby rice made with baby milk first usually at breakfast to see how he goes. I used to have to sieve it so that it was nice and creamy without lumps! He didn't like it much so I tried a bit of rusk with baby milk. I also tried him with fromage frais too after a few days, but he developed too much of a taste for it so stopped! The thing to remember is not to introduce new foods to him to fast. usually introduce new stuff every three or four days to see whether he likes it. But stick to baby rice or something plain for the first weeks or so and then try new tastes like sweet potato. Weaning is very frustrating and expect lots of mess! I can recommend two books for you to try:- The Contented Little Baby series (Weaning), and Annabel Karmel's Baby & toddler Meal planner. Annabel's book has lots of tasty reciepes in it which can be frozen in cubes for later use. I found it very helpful.

Remember to perservere though as he might refuse to start with, or go through phases when he doesnt feel like eating at all.

I hope that this helps. Good luck!
jeez, sad story.

5 months? Breastmilk.

They recommend at 6 months to start feeding plain babies rice cereal mixed with formula, breast milk or water (warm, not hot) and just a little bit, maybe once or twice a day for awhile.

Go to http://www.babycenter.com for more specific information. They are a great resource.

Also, just for your info, they've done studies to prove that the earlier we start our babies on solid food the more inclined they are to being obese when they get older and also having bowel problems. Just so you know! But if he's hungry ALL the time then starting him might not be a bad idea anyway.
Soory to hear that. You can start your baby on baby food at 6 mths old.First foods.Remember give one for a few days b-4 trying another.Always start w/veggies.Once you try fruits they won't want the veggies unless they are used to them.Good Luck.
id try abit of baby cereal he was only 2 weeks prem so starting solid food would be around 4 half to 5 months old so he would be ready for it if your worried about feeding at all contact your health visitor shell be able to give you all the support and advice you need.

1 tip for you use a soft tipped spoon for feeding as babys seem to respond to these better then hard spoons as is softer on the gums.
