Baby Bottle Sterilisers. Steam, Microwave or Disolved tablets?
Answers:
I use the tablets. It is alot kinder to babies bottles and teething rings, etc. If you are using a breast pump then this method is best.
Steam no question. No chemical or microwaves
Microwave
Milton was too messy and left a scum on the bottles and made the kitchen smell.
The steam one was good for when my daughter was little and was taking lots of bottles.
Once she was down to 4 or 5 per day we used the microwave one, quick easy and effective
i used boiling hot water heated on the stove
steam one definitely
always go for steam, much cleaner and safer
the microwave ones worke with steam, too. they are great and don't leave white marks on the bottles like when you put them in boiling water.
Steam wins my vote everytime, much easier than microwave and cheaper than chemical.
Steam
I used the countertop ones for about a month then I got the little baskets for the dishwasher (Dishwasher detergant has chlorine to kill germs) because the sterilizer was a pain and took up too much counter space, and my son never had thrush. I could never get all of the bottles, nipples, rings and pacifiers in one load in the sterilizer.
Steam, it's pure, it's natural, and it is almost fool proof
why use steam . have u tryed breastfeeding? much cheaper too
NO microwave! Duh. Microwave does not kill all the bacteria. It's not good to cook food for grown-ups in microwave, just re-heating; let alone for babies.
The steadiest way is to put them into water and boil them for ten minutes - not steam, fully boiling. That way you're sure to have sterilised them well.
Microwave is the cleanest and easiest option in my opinion. Had 3 babies and always used a microwave one.
I used a steamer. It was fine.
microwave
My cousin SWEARS by the microwave steamer. She tried all of the above and found this to be the quickest and most effective way to do it. She even gave me one for my baby shower. I haven't tried it yet cuz my little one isn't due for another 5 weeks or so.
I had a great microwave one. It took 4 bottles and was made by the manufacturer of the bottles I used (Avent) So they fitted perfectly. Also took my breast pump. Lasted me two babies. And then passed on to a relative. I could carry mine around easily.
I also had a water one with the tablets for emergencies.
I think its a matter of choice and whats convenient for you. I never had a problem with residue on my bottles in the water steriliser, maybe it depends how you use it.
Steam from the dishwasher. I only sterilized (boiling water and dunked for 5 min.) bottles, pacifiers, sippy cups, etc when the I bought a new item unless the instructions indicated not to. I do run everything through the dishwasher and I have also hand washed with super hot water. My daughter has never been sick and she's 11 months old.
For me, it's Steam sterilisers (can get more in them once the baby starts weaning) and cold water sterilisers (handy to have some sterilising tablets around as some teethers and toys cannot go into steam sterilisers..leave an awful mess!).
i used bot steam and microwave.. i found microwave easier
Steam. Quick, easy and cheap!
I use a microwavable sterilizer from Avent. It is proven to be safe and more santized than regular steaming; especially, who has time to steam bottles these days? You have to constantly watch the pot and make sure the water doesn't vanish and destroy the bottles. I use the microwavable sterilizer because it's simple to use and I can come back anytime to check on the bottles. It is quite expensive, but it's worth it. All you do is give it a rinse when you're done. You can use it for your future babies and we're you're done having babies, you can sell it on Ebay.
My family boils/steams bottles. It's a waste of time and money. They have to constantly buy new pots for new babies and for other family members, if they don't know that the pot is used for baby bottles only, they will use it as regular pots.
the breast is best
steam
steam
i used steam for all 3 its easier to clean etc etc
& i wouldnt EVER use a microwave with bottles, especially for warming bottled milk hot spots may burn the inside of your childs mouth, without you even having knowledge of it.until its too late
a microwave steam steriliser is brilliant. i have the avent one and i couldn't imagine having to wait so long to get stuff sterilised and i don't generally bottlefeed. i would find it such a huge hassle if i did! mine takes 5 mins and about 10 mins to cool off, then it's done. dummies take less time to cool off so if i'm in a hurry it's easy.
steam def x
I found the best one was a big sterlising bucket with milton solution, this you do not need to rinse off and is sterilised in 15mins.
The microwave ones are only small so you cannot get many bottles in and they are not very deep making it difficult to get all the air bubbles from the bottle and properly sterilising it.
I never had a steam so couldnt comment.
I USE THE MICROWAVE, IT JUST TAKES 4 MINUTES AND IS JUST AS GOOD AS STEAMING.
LIKE OTHER MOTHERS HERE, I USE THE AVENT ONE AND IT HAS WORKED OUT GREAT SO FAR. 70Z OF WATER AND 4 MINUTES IN THE MICROWAVE.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. YOU WILL SEE HOW MUCH TIME YOU SAVE WHILE STILL STERILIZING THE BOTTLES CORRECTLY AND SAFELY FOR YOUR BABY.
ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO SAY BREASTFEEDING IS BEST, I AGREE 100%. BUT IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CAN NOT DO IT, DO NOT FEEL BAD. I WAS READY TO BREASTFEED MY SON, I EVEN BOUGHT THE MEDELA PUMP IN STYLE PUMP ($300) SO I COULD EXPRESS MILK AT WORK. AND MY SON NEVER WANTED THE BREAST. EVEN BREASTFEEDING COUNSELORS TRIED TO HELP ME TO GET HIM TO LATCH ON, AND NOTHING WAS POSSIBLE. SO IF FOR SOME REASON YOU CANT DO IT, YOU ARE STILL A GOOD MOTHER. DO NOT FEEL BAD.
You are gettin some silly answers. I assume by microwave you mean the sterilisers that you put in the microwave once they are covered with water added meaning they use steam to clean the bottles?
You aren't actually microwaving the bottles, using the heat to make the water boil and the steam does it.
I used the avent microwave one as kitchen worktop space was an issue and I didn't want to be looking at a bulky steriliser all the time, they take 5 mins and are very effecitve. I know the big ones take longer.
One word of advice though - measure your microwave cos some are to small for the sterilisers!
Good luck!
