Keep an 18 month old in car seat?

Answers:
Are you asking me how you would achieve this?
or making an incredulous statement?
what do you mean? all children under 4ft 9in should be in a toddler or car seat!
yes.
of course you should do
yes...they have weight and height restrictions most places..but if one is not available at the time at least use a seatbelt
You could do with a booster seat if your baby is bigger than 15kg
may be.
only if in the car
Just have to be very strict about it. I smacked my daughter for undoing her belt at around the same age (20mths), after a few warnings. It was one of only a couple of smacks she ever got but for something soooo important I was willing to inflict a small amount of sting. I also explained in simplistic terms that she was not to take it off, thankfully she learnt quickly. If the problem persists then maybe look for a carseat with a fairly strong buckle setup that the child cannot undo themselves. Good luck. It would be horrible to think what the consequences would be of not keeping the child buckled up.
Are you saying your child can undo the belt? That's common enough! You have to be firm!

However if your 18 mth old just laughs at your attempts to be firm you can buy material with uncomfortable prickles that sticks onto the button. Obviously it does not hurt the child! Best place to buy is National childbirth trust.
well it would depend on what kind of condition it was in and weather or not the child still fits the car seat!!!!
set it on fire first!
not the carseat, the kid!!
I had to wrap a blanket around the buckle part of the car seat if i was driving. If someone else was driving I would sit with my son and scold him for touching it. I would also try to distract him with books or toys. Eventually I got a car seat that he couldn't undo. I do sympathise with you but on the bright side a toddler that won't leave things like that alone is showing a bright and enquiring mind!
my 16 month old is an escape artist also. He can only get out of part of it though. try and tell him in a way that he understands that no car seat can make an ouch! that is how I explained it to mine.
Yes, by all means!
i think she is asking how!! when my 2 and a half year old was about 18 months keeping him in was a mission. no matter what he would escape i kept buying new ones but the kid was like hoodeny. make sure the straps are tight enough and what i did was tie something round them at the front just across his chest so that he couldn't take them off his sholders and wrigle out. the only problem with that is that he would struggle so much that he make the knot so tight it took me half an hour to un do it lol
My 18 month old sits in a car seat that we used for my 4 year old daughter when she was young enough for it. It has a bar that goes over her head and a latch that clips right about her breastbone. She has never really messed with it.
Yes, an 18 month old must be in a car seat. Accidents are the leading cause of death for children. As the adults in their lives, we must do what we can to protect them. A car seat will be a child's biggest defense in a vehicle accident. I believe most states have laws requiring children to be in an approved car seat properly restrained. If your little one can get himself out of his car seat, you'll have to be creative in finding a way to keep him in. Try distraction first - keep a bag of special car seat only toys, books, games that he can have when he is in his car seat. Get some fun kids' Cd's or cassette tapes and sing along. Make sure the car seat he uses is approved and properly restrained by taking him in it to your local police station. One of the officers should be trained in proper usage of car seats and can help you. Our area law enforcement agencies have periodic car seat checks.
you must keep him/her in a car seat. Maybe you could try a booster seat that closely resembles sitting on the actual seat of the car. Tell them that they wont to be safe like you, maybe they will mimic what they see you do and want to be just like you.
try giving him toys - those pretend steering wheels are good so he is distracted & doesn't try to get out
yes, I had no problem with it
If the kid is succeeding in getting out of his or her carseat, try a carseat w/ a 5 point harness - they are actually the safest seats out there. The one's that have that bar that goes over the lap are the worst, they provide a false sence of security and in a real car accident w/ enough force the kid will fly out and go straight through to wind shield. 5 point harness carseats cover the lap and the shoulders But the most important thing is to Make Sure The Buckle Inbetween The Shoulders Is Up To The Armpits - Or It Won't Work In A Car Accident. People always have that thing down by the tummy and in an accident the shoulders will slide right out and w/ enough force after the shoulders have slipped out i'm sure the legs might slide right out too.

My son hates the carseat too but one thing that works is:
Juice and a Snack - fruit loops in a bag works great!
only when u r in the pub...cos they r 2 young 2 b in there
They should be in a car seat then a booster seat till they are 4-6
guess the answer is listen to the news over the next few days,. the law comes in on Monday.........
obviously!
my son was a git to keep in his car seat i found that bribing him with bubbles helped try keeping some in the car and rewarding him with them when he sits nicely and giving a streering wheel toy perhaps good luck and try to keep sane
SOME KIDS ARE JUST IMPOSSIBLE TO STRAP DOWN!! I BROUGHT AN ADDITIONAL CLIP FOR MY SONS CAR SEAT IT IS A SIMPLE CONTRAPTION THAT KEEPS THE CHEST STRAPS TOGETHER SO THAT THEY CAN'T WRIGGLE THEIR ARMS FREE AND HOUDINI OUT OF THE SEAT. YOU CAN VIEW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT ON WALMART.COM WEBSITE EVENFLO CHEST CLIP ALSO ON EBAY.COM. THEY ARE VERY COMMONLY USED IN AMERICA AND IN FACT COME AS STANDARD ON ALL THEIR CAR SEATS BUT I DID PURCHASE MINE IN THE UK SO GET SEARCHING AND GOOD LUCK, I KNOW THE FEELING OF LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE YOUR UNUSUALLY QUIET TODDLER CLIMBING OUT OF THE CAR SEAT.!.!.!
must!
it depend on the state you are in. ohio they have to be 4 and 40 lbs.before they can get out of a car seat or a booster.
of course!!!! it is illegal not to.
