When you crack open a fresh hazlenut and it's empty is that like a molar pregancy for a tree?

Answers:
I suspect that the contents of the hazelnut were eaten by a wee beastie who left through a tiny hole - either that or the inside was eaten by a fungus that managed to dissipate through the porous shell.

I suppose it is conceivable that if a nut was not developing properly the tree could reabsorb the nutrients, but in that case I would expect the nut to be small and misshapen.

A molar pregnancy sounds like a very nasty thing (yes, I had to look it up), its not really something I care to think about for too long but it seems to be somewhat different to what happened to the hazelnut.
it is just an unfertilised seed, an underdeveloped one or a withered one, it happens
sounds like you was born with out brains..poor kid
More like a phantom pregnancy, as a molar pregnancy is a pre cancerous condition.
