Could you help me to make y the subject of this equation 2y / 3-x =y if you could show me your working?
Could you help me to make y the subject of this equation
2y / 3-x =y
if you could show me your working out in step's and give me an explanation of how you worked out each step that would be really helpful.
Answers:
2y/3 -x=y
2y/3-y=x
multiplying by 3
2y-3y=3x
-y=3x
y=-3x
3y -yx = 2y
y - yx =0
y(1-x) = 0
so two possible solutions
y=0 or x=1
If you're making one variable the subject, then you're trying to get that variable, in this case y, on 1 side by itself
2y / 3-x = y
First, you need to move the 3-x to the right side by muliplying the entire equation by it:
(2y / 3-x = y) 3-x
which will give you:
2y = 3-xy
to get the y on the right, to the left, you need to divide by it:
2y / y = 3-xy / y
which equals:
y = 3-x
that's because on the right, the y's cancel each other out, and on the left, it is the same as 2y / 1y, which leaves y.
Hope that helps
2y/3-x=y
2y=3y-xy
0=3y-2y-xy
0=y(1-x)
y=0
That is as good as it gets

That's the second question in a few minutes..are you wanting us to do all your homework?
As above - just make sure that what you do on one side of the equation you also do on the other side, and deal with multiplying and dividing before adding and subtracting. Questions like this look confusing and scary but when you know what steps to follow they are not too bad :)
rfamilyme gave you the correct answer. That means that 3 out of 4 people either can't read a question properly (you didn't ask for a solution) or can't do very basic algebra. How ever did man get to the Moon?
(2y/3) -x=y
(2y/3)=y+x
2y=3(y+x)
2y=3y+3x
-3y+2y=3x
y=-3x
2y/3 - x = y
Multiply both sides by 3 to get
2y - 3x = 3y
bring the 2y from the LHS to the RHS to get
-3x = 3y - 2y
Therefore y = -3x
2y/3-x = y multiply by 3-x
2y = y (3-x) so
2y = 3y -xy giving
y = xy divide by y
x=1
y= anything
looks like a trick question!
y cannot be made the subject as the "y"s on both sides will cancel each other out. In short, this equation does not depend on the value of y.
2y / 3-x =y
2y = y(3-x)
2y = 3y-xy
xy = 3y-2y
xy = y
