When is ameica going to swich to the metric system?

America is the only developed nation, or something like that, that won't switch, I mean their both equally confusing when are you going to use hecto liters meters and grams or deci meters liters or grams

Answers:
America's conversion to metric is the law:http://ts.nist.gov/weightsandmeasures/me.

It's just voluntary.

However, all the units you listed are metric. The prefixes you're confused about are metric prefixes.

never
america wants to stand out from everyone else and this is one way of doing it
never. it is what makes them different and so they have something else to add to their long list of things to boast about lol!
Because americans are stubborn and onto themselves.
I know, what's up with that?
Hopefully we'll never switch. Just because most of the world is metric doesn't make it a better system.
Never, I think. They are very old-fashioned. They want to keep miles, feet, etc......
When all the Brits who can warn them about how they got ripped off in the changeover have died of old age.
here in america only the drug dealers deal in kilos
dinosaur mentality, they refuse to accept it's an easier system. but don't be too hasty to shout. both the US and the UK are in limbo, the uk is metric but we still have mph speed limits and the u.s news shows broadcast speed in kmh
What makes you think America will be around that long? They are so far in the hole they can't maintain their roads - and their cheating - lieing poiticans are keeping them that way! I know - I live there!
LOL. NEVER.
Never, we have many other things to deal with right now.oil, war, and the democrats taking over the house and senate. yikes, when will we have time to switch over to the metric system. I think man will be living on the moon before America decides to switch to metric. It's all good.
I agree with you. Our metric system drives me insane, and I don't know why we won't change. I could never understand it.
In the UK we still measure our distances in Miles, quote our fuel economies in MPG, and weigh ourselves mostly in Pounds / Stones. The convertion to the Metric System is far from complete.

Look to the future. Computers don't work in decimal (32 bit, 64bit, 512 Mb RAM etc), why should anything else.

Whilst we still have 12 months in a year and 24 hours in a day there's hope for us all!
In Miami Vice they were dealing in kilos of cocaine and that show was in the 1980s - correct me if i'm wrong but that is metric is it not?
Well done USA, but why the hell did you drive on the right, that was Napoleon's doing too.

Those who want metric only need to convert measurements to metric, it's as easy as that.
I think they are still rather hoping to convert the rest of the world back to imperial measurements, after they have completed their imperial ambitions to take over the rest of the world.
Stick to the imperial system Britain may have been forced into the metric system but we still think in miles per gallon and miles per hour, smoke tobacco in ounces, weigh ourselves in pounds and stones and measure our height in feet and inches.
Are you nuts? That's in AF thread of course!
Americans have a hard time multiplying by 10. Their president believes the jury is still out on evolution so what does that say about the mentality of Americans? Maybe when they get invaded by China in about 50 years will they be forced into it.
