probably not, eugenics didn't.......Hitler tried breeding a super race.....marry two ballet dancers and you will probably produce a small fat engineer.
It's similar to those seafood places that have lobsters as a 'pick your own'.
They line up a bunch of pregnant women, and you walk back and forth and choose which one you'd like. Some people give them a kick, like car tires, just to see what kind of bounce back there is.
Once you've picked, you just let them know how you'd like it cooked, and enjoy!
Embyro selection is usually used by parents who are carriers of genetic disorders, who therefore run the risk of having a child with a particular recessive condition - like cystic fibrosis for example.
Similar to IVF, a number of eggs are fertilized in vitro. The DNA of each embryo is then extracted (at around the 8 cell stage I think) and tested to see if the embryo has inherited the genetic condition. A selection would be made from embryos free from the disorder, and the rest left to die.
Obviously this is an ethical hotbed! There are the obvious benefits but plenty of people who can not tolerate the idea of creating embryos specifically with the intention of letting some die.
