What were conditions on Earth like 4 billion years ago?

Answers:
Sorry! Not that old!
I think the word Bleak sums it up well

:o)
A little like Baghdad I should imagine only a little safer to walk about.
take a look at Slough now.Thats roughly the same equivelant :))
I don't think Earth was around 4 billion years ago. But when earth was first formed (scientific theory), it was a lot like Venus, with volcanos that spew continuously. But I'm Christian, so Earth today is similar (minus all technology) to when it was first made.
my guess is that it was very hot, probably the surface of the globe was not entirely solid, the atmosphere was made of very little free oxygen and very much water vapor. I doubt if there was much liquid water on the surface. and of course no life.
sorry,no idea,i'm from another planet, so can't help you there.
Maybe Clinton was shouting at the dinosaurs.. "You can sit there with a smirk on your face."
I think like hot and very humid
primordial ooze was everywhere
hot, very hot
As I recall, it was a happier time when :-
gay meant happy
songs had PROPER lyrics.
you could go out and leave your door open without fear of being robbed [no robbers].
you could buy an entire continent and still have change from £1.
It wasn't all good though. You couldn't , even then, get
a bloody comfortable seat on a long haul flight without
taking a second mortgage!
very hot with lava everywhere
I believe that 4 billion the Earth was a molten rock orbiting the sun. By 3000 million yrs ago when life appeared.
right, let me just check back my diary.
earth in 4 billion years ago was actually like venus with volcanos and spews continously it was very hot and the surface of the globewas entirely solid andthe atmosphere was with little free oxygen
