For mechanical engineer project (college)?
I have to develop something for my physics project on college (mechanical engineer).
I have to create something.for example (last year's projects):
Magnetical brake
automatic door in a car

.
I doesn't have to do with cars.anything with physics and mechanical stuff.

Here's one I thought about while studying engineering, but I live in a northern climate, heated wind shield wipers!
The automatic door wasn't anything new. They make those kits for the car already. I have it on my car for shows. Cars are easy to make applicable upgrades for which is why so many people choose to do something on them. What about a more effecient liquid cooling system for car audio, or maybe a drinking bowl for cats that keeps the water in motion so it doesn't get stagnant.
Use your imagination - that's the idea of being an engineer. Don't copy other peoples ideas.

All it needs to do is to dose a small amount of food once a day.
Perfect for people that are going on holiday.
This will embody both electro and mechanical engineering.

Remember, you are trying to make a really cool engineered solution. For example: controlling water getting to your yard can be done with a flow meter and some fancy computer analysis sytem to determine water need. Wow cool! Also, you can just turn the water on and off by hand guessing when and where to put the sprinkler. Both are engineered solutions.
how about a car jack powered from the car's battery?
Design a system using flow regulated valves to keep unused parts of the water main sweet.
That is to say where all pipes have flow in them regardless of local draw.
Do a similar exercise to use the unbalanced remainder in a domestic three phase distribution system.
Currently the three phases are distributed between three houses and leaves this part of the circuit unbalanced when one or two houses are empty.
I think the best thing to do would be to speak to some local businesses about a project. Engineering is about solving problems to make money or improve lives so if you can link your project to a real need you'll get a lot more out of it, benefit someone, get a better grade and possibly make a bit of cash on the way. Try garages, factories, manufacturing firms that sort of thing. You don't have to come up with a brand new invention you just have to apply your knowledge and skills in a creative way. If they like your solution then they should pay you for the rights to use it. Bam!.you are halfway to becoming an engineering consultant.
