Will the U.K. ever have the great idea of evry1 turning ther lites out so we can all enjoy the stars at nite?
Answers:
or rather why the f#ck did planners and designer be so extremely bloody thick and design street and motorway lighting that throws light out in every single direction instead of just the road surface! thus creating light pollution and wasting power! duh!
You don't need everyone to turn there lights out, just go to Scotland, I lived there half my life and could see the stars no probs
Looks like another project for the bbc to get involved in
Might cause a few problems on the roads, perhaps?
Agree with another answerer, we waste an awful lot of light upwards.
i also live in scotland...we only see the brightest stars if everybody turned the lights out we would see the milky way.....what a great idea.we should do it once a month at least.
Answer to Wave.
Planners and Designer have to comply with the "Dark skies regulations" which prohibits upward light spill by law.
The most polution comes from the old style of street lighting
and with over 20,000,000 street lights at a cost of about £1,000 each will take a lot of time and money to replace.
PS Got any spare?
No they will will never have the idea, there will always be someone who wants to be different. But yes it is a great idea. end all light pollution
That's stupid...how bout the ppl who have to drive to work in the middle of the night. Huh?

It would be great if they could, we could see the stars, save so much energy, less light pollution, the list goes on.
The only way they could do that, that I can see is if they installed motion snsors on street lamps. Then for example the lights could turn on whenever a vehicle or person is detected within a certain radius of the light. Obviously it would be most efficient in the earlier hours of the morning, where'd you'd have a light-wave effect! Our lab which is open 24hrs a day have motion detectors for internal lighting. I'm guessing tho, that this would be pretty expensive to implement around the country!
