In a cell Membrane, what is the role of proteins?

Part of a Biology Essay for AS. Any help will be greatly apreciated.

Transport, Structural support, receptors, adhesion molecules to name a few.

the protein on cell membrane are used for few roles.
for example:

transporters - to get nutrients in and out from the cell (simport/antiport etc.)

receptors - to get paracrene/hendocrene signals from other celles.

there are also Flipasot (changing the order of lipids)

Proteins of a cell membrane offer structural support to the cell increasing it's integrity; they function as receptors e.g insulin receptors that bind to insulin allowing it to exact it's effect on the cell; as modulators allowing substances in and out of the cell e.g Na+/K+ pump; as cell markers allowing the body to identify foreing cells; and in extreme conditions as is seen in starvation as source of energy through a process known as the anaplerotic pathway, a biochemical process that allows protein into the TCA (krebs) cycle to produce energy when glucose concetration is low.
Membrane Proteins
As you study different organelles, you will learn about important membrane proteins that function for that particular organelle. Transmembrane proteins are amphipathic, in that they have hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions

that are oriented in the same regions in the lipid bilayer. Another name for them is "integral proteins". Other types of proteins may be linked only at the cytoplasmic surface (by attachment to a fatty acid chain), or at the external cell surface, attached by a oligosaccharide. Or, these non-transmembrane proteins may be bound to other membrane proteins. Collectively these are called "peripheral membrane proteins" .

It helps to separate the cell interior from its surroundings within animal cells, and control the input and output of cell through the use of receptor and cell adhesion proteins, which also play a role in cell behavior and the organization of cells within tissues.
