In my appleseed dormacy experiment, my seed didnt grow even tho i used plenty of H2O n sunlight, wut went wrong

Everyday it sat in the window where the sunlight shined in and i watered it with enough water, but nothing happened ecept mold grew on the top of the dirt, what could i have done different and why didn't it grow? i did wut our experiment for class said to do, it was just one little seed.

You probably watered the seed too much before it sprouted and the seed rotted. Keeping it in a hot house envirionment is what it needed. I use those plastic containers that you buy cooked chicken in from the deli. I place moist potting soil in the tray part and I plant the seed in the soil. I then cover it with the lid of the container and place it in a sunny warm spot. I don't let the soil completely dry out and if it starts to get dry I mist it with a spray bottle and cover again. Moisture will build up inside the lid and the seed will germinate. After it germinates and starts growing you can then water like you would any plant. I hope this works for you.
Could be one of these:
Too much water
Too much heat
Sterile seed to begin with, not all seeds can grow.
You have to stratify the seeds (keep at a cool temperature) for 2-3 months to release the dormancy. This means plopping it into some barely moist dirt and storing in the warmest part of your fridge (never the freezer!) for 2-3 months. Otherwise they will not germinate.
Hi britt, you can never guarantee 100% whatever you try to grow, always try and copy nature. In nature
1) The apple falls to the ground in the autumn and will germinate in the spring, avoid planting 'fresh seeds'
2) an apple contains more than one seed, more seeds give a higher chance of success
3) apples will fall in different locations giving varying conditions for better success. try planting and germinating seeds under various conditions - depth of soil cover, amount of water etc
from your description it seems that over-watering was the problem and the seed suffered from 'damping off'
better luck next time
on reaching the core of my apple I noticed a sprout coming from one of the seeds.Took it out ,planted it a container it grew it had to be shifted it is now 5ft.tall .They tell me it will bear fruit in 10 years. your ? Ireckon too much watering try the school trick damp blotting paper in a jar.
Yeah, try wet tissue paper until it starts to germinate. And make sure you take it out from the packet too ;)
Let the seed dry out first rather than planting a "fresh" one straightfrom the apple. Then, instead of watering the thing just put the seed between the folds of damp kitchen paper and it should sprout then pop some sprouting mixture on the rootlet and push (not too deeply) into your growing medium.
