Molecular Markers?
Any info. on molecular markers, it would be great if you could provide links with your answers.
Answers:
Molecular markers are pieces of DNA that are linked to or are part of a gene associated with a desirable characteristic, such as seed size or disease resistance. Through a process called marker assisted selection, scientists can use molecular markers to select plants or animals that have the characteristic without waiting for them to grow to maturity.

Markers on the Genetic Chromosome
Heritable traits that can be assayed (markers) are of many different kinds:
Visible (physical appearance): height, shape, color, growth rate, etc.
Auxotrophic (growth requirements). For microorganisms such as baker's yeast, though some markers are visual markers affecting colony color or morphology, many are auxotrophic markers. Search here for terms such as 3-letter amino acid abbreviations for loci whose mutation causes a requirement for that amino acid for growth.
Antibiotic sensitivities and resistances.
Conditional: nutrition (auxotrophy); temperature ( ts mutants); light; developmental; etc.

Definition:
Specific fragments of DNA that can be identified within the whole genome.
Molecular markers are found at specific locations of the genome. They are used to 'flag' the position of a particular gene or the inheritance of a particular characteristic.
In a genetic cross, the characteristics of interest will usually stay linked with the molecular markers. Thus, individuals can be selected in which the molecular marker is present, since the marker indicates the presence of the desired characteristic.

Instead of searchingf for "molecular markers" do a search fro "gene markers"
That opens a PLETHORA of links, it is the same think
you can also search for "molecular maps"
I Googled 'Molecular Markers' and found this website, I had a quick glance and it looks pretty good, but I wouldn't really know. http://opbs.okstate.edu/~melcher/mg/mgw1.
