they can live for up 80 years!
until they die.
It is really simple elephants live to rut , they have to transmit their
genetics.
An elephant usually lives for 70 years. The death at old age is usually caused by hunger as the 6th set of molars wear out.
A boy is introduced to a baby elephant when he is young. They live and work together for the whole of their lives which are very comparable.

About 80 years
between 70-100 years, they become mature enough to reproduce only after 25-30 years and thereafter produce only one offspring every 10 years.
Thought you might find this interesting:

The African elephant is a long lived animal, with a potential lifespan of 60 years in the wild, and this is reflected by its long reproductive cycle. The females and pre-pubescent males live in what are known as matriarchal groups. These groups normally consist of either two or three sisters and their offspring or one old cow (the matriarch), plus one or two daughters and their offspring. Led by the matriarch, the social bonds within the group are exceedingly strong, and the group displays very strong co-operative behaviour. The gestation period is 22 months, and the calf suckles for between 3 and 4 years and reaches puberty at approximately 10 years of age. Though this may increase in response to periods of drought or high population densities. As the females reach sexual maturity they stay with the family unit, and begin to breed. When the group size becomes too large the young cows gradually separate forming their own family group. In this way all the family groups within a certain area will be strongly related. In contrast, once the bulls reach puberty they completely leave the family unit, and lead a completely solitary life. Their only real interactions with other elephants occur during mating.
