Do simple products test on animals, or have any animal derived products in them?

Answers:
Depends a bit where you live. Animal testing for cosmetics is illegal in the UK and has been since 1998, so any British-made products developed in the last 8 years have not been tested on animals. From 2008 animal testing for cosmetics will be illegal throughout the European Union, and it will be illegal to import any animal-tested cosmetics into the EU, so any product available should not have been tested on animals. However, some of the ingredients may have been tested on animals prior to this; many substances were developed decades ago, and were almost certainly tested, but unfortunately it is impossible to undo research, we can't really forget we ever knew about them, then 'accidentally' re-discover them. As for animal-derived products, almost everything found in simple products is either plant-derived or entirely synthetic, certainly things like the use of whale fat in soap were abandoned years ago. The only exception I can think of is that recently a couple of moisturisers have begun advertising milk as an ingredient, I don't know whether you would class that as animal-derived, but typically it's very obvious if it's present, it's only in a tiny minority of products, and they don't really fall into the category of 'simple'.
I hope so! I want to be sure they're safe!
both
All products/ ingredients in cosmetic products have a legal requirement to be tested on animals. If they advertise that they don't its because all the ingredients have at some point in the past been tested by someone else, and have been qualified as being safe for human use, so they dont need to be tested again if you see what i mean. If lets say a certain ingrdient was tested 10 years ago by simple, than that same ingredient can be used by the body shop, but because its already been tested by simple, the body shop dont have to test it and can say that their product hasn't been tested on animals
