Do You Believe in Darwin's Theory of Evolution?

Or the Bible story? or the Big Bang? or some other theory which explains how we got here? Which one and why?

Answers:
I believe in the scientific theory of evolution (Darwins own theory is way outdated in some ways) as I am a paleontologist and I see evolution of fossil morphotypes through geological time, from studying the fossil themselves, and in the scientific literature. Plus all the genetic evidence which shows branching trees of life. Plus everything else. There is just overwhelming evidence.

Unfortunately the more science advances, the harder it is for lay people to be very familiar with each field - there is just too much information, unless you really apply yourself. I don't understand the whole field of advanced physics and haven't spent a lot of time on it. But I trust enough in the scientific process to believe that the Big Bang is the most likely explanation we have so far for the origin of the universe.
no
Darwins theory doesn't discount the Big Bang does it? Just doesn't include it?
I lean towards Darwin.
Evolution does not preclude the Big Bang (the Bible precludes everything else).
Darwin was right!
One day I opened my eyes and said "I think, therefore I am".
People who live in Darwin have only one theory. "I drink, therefore I drink". I hope this helps.
BELIEFE in those doesn"t matter. There is proven fact which dictates Darwin's Theory is true, that the "Big Bang" happened. What PROOF do we have of the Bible"s story? BTW I'm a Catholic.
i believe in evolution. how else can you explain the adaptation of species . you can actually see this in fossils
yes of course it follows from Mendel's laws
Yep, I believe that human beings came from apes. I married the missing link!!
i believe in the refined neodarwinism.
You have to look at things in perspective. It has some truth to it, but u have to relate it to other elements to realise its significance/credibility
Darwin, which is descendent of the Big Bang.

The proof is before our eyes. How can anyone believe the bible story?
letter 2
i believe in Darwin
I absolutely believe that evolution is fact. As well as the Big Bang. The big bang explains where the universe, as we know it, came from. Evolution explains where life, as we know it on earth, came from (along with Abiogenesis).

Evolution is a well known fact, with archeaological, anthropological, biological, and genetic evidence to back it up. Most "missing links" between major species changes have been found.

And to top it off, it makes a whole lot more sense than just one woman and one man in a garden.
Well, I believe that God is All-That-Is.

I also believe we were created by aliens. We are hybrids of the various alien races and the native earth population, genetically-engineered. Thus we have "being made in God's image," as well as "the missing link."

With all that being said, life continues to evolve on earth and elsewhere.
Darwin is not a theory - it is proven scientific fact that has been objectively & scientifically observed and recorded. To discount this is like going back to saying the earth is flat.
There does seem to be a constant change in all the living beings around us, changing to survive. We see it in everything, but is it really evolution, i.e. becoming better, or is it just random change that just works for some and not for others? When you say evolution, it sounds so orderly, so well-planned, but studies have shown it is anything but. It is a mad scramble to adapt, in micro- and macrocosm.
I do not think we have the necessary tools to explain the deeper realities of life yet, but there will hopefully come a time when we can.
There are two wonderful books by Brian Greene, expecially The Fabric of Cosmos that you may want to check out. It doesn't read VERY easily but it offers a much more digestible version than many other scientific books. Another wonderful book to read is Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. At that, anything he wrote is a must read :)
yah
dont believe in any of them , all a mystery to me and it should be left that way, just my opinion!
i do now, after looking at you...
The Big Bang theory is the best explanation we have which fits the observable facts.

Darwin's Theory of Evolution equally, is the best explanation of variety in species, fitting current observations.

The reason both have the status 'only a theory', is that they can / will be modified if new observations offer contradictory evidence.

Those believing in Creationism aren't prepared to modify their explanation in the light of new evidence, they just reject any new evidence.
i dont think anyone really knows there seems to be some evidence to support all theorys but then you can gain the wrong conclusion from the evidence available dependant on how it is presented hence miss trials wars etc i dont think were meant to have all the answers
Though I believe the bible that God created all life in "7 Days" In actuallity there is no days to God since he exist outside of time. A million or a billion years can be one day to God besides who am I to argue with Gods time?. "Day" was a simplified reference for man to use back then -at the time the bible was first written. (Man probably knew little more than what a day was back then anyhow). In fact it wasn't until about 800 AD that Pope Gregory the Great asked astronomers how long a month and year was.. and so he developed the calender we have to this very day
I like the way man is portrayed in 2001 A Space Odysea. I believe there was a Divine moment where man transcended all things by Gods grace alone and man received a soul. He created us Good it says in the bible I agree. Its hard to imagine though that God created us in His image. I guess that doesn't say much for God given how dumb man can be!
Whatever the truth, the Bible has got it wrong
Certain parts of Darwin's theory are true, as evolution does happen in most cases. Adaptation and survival of the fittest. Only the fittest animals passed on the their genes. But to believe that apes turned in to humans is sheer unsubstantiated nonsense. See link provided. Keep an open mind.
Darwin's theory is certainly valid for our development over that last 1 or 2 million years. However, no one knows how we got started. Perhaps we are the survivors of a distant race that sent the seeds of life to Earth before their planet was destroyed. Just as likely, we are only a science project developed by some distant school kid. When he got a D+, he just discarded it and left us to survive on our own.
Yes Darwins theory of evolution does explain how the genes in our cells arrived at this destination, the genes pitted species over millleniaeu to carry on their respective genes. In my experience of living on this planet marvelling at its beauty and its unpredictability,
I think there is only one law that allows for the overall explaination of this universe and everything in it. 2nd Law of Thermodynamics `For every reaction that occurs in this universe, there is an overall increase of entropy (chaos) in the universe`
I certainly don't believe in Darwin nor the bible and science comes up with so many beginnings it would make your hair curl. The philosopher in me would like to think we came from outer space, but I must be truthful and say I do not know.
Darwin's theory falls whenever you look at the human race itself, the colours of the skin, the facial features etc. and though we have been on this earth for a long time have you seen any apes evolve recently....
It is just a theory hence the name!
The theory of evolution is not a single theory. It is a series of logical interconnected statements. Those who do not believe it either have not read it, (closed minds), or cannot follow a logical argument, (low intellect).
