Well there is no cure, however there is a very successful treatment. Its called AZT and it is a cocktail of different drugs that if you take when you have HIV you can effectively prevent yourself from ever getting AIDS. In some people it actually lowers the level of HIV in the blood to undetectable levels.
The problems with AZT were that it was a lot of different pills to take and was very expensive.
However the latest news I heard is that some drug company has found a way to simplify the cocktail down to just a few pills a day, while simultaneously lowering the price. Sorry I don't have the details.
The upside is, if you can afford the treatment HIV is now a manageable disease, much like diabetes.
