What is the symbol for "approximately" eg it is approximtely 10 m long. I dont want to use "not equal to"
Answers:
(^)
mol = more or less
an equal sign but it's is curvey as it goes right.. to it looks like two ~ stacked on top of each other
Aprox !! or <>
The symbol is a tilda ~
For example:
~10g
Approximate sign is hard to type, but it is.
~~
It's a wavy "equal" sign. Like the symbol to the left of the number 1 on your keyboard doubled up like an equal sign.
~ is the symbol.
+/-, means add a little or take away a little
Its a wiggly = sign made up of two these ~
redstorm and luka d answers are correct.
An equals sign where the lines are squiggly, like this: ≈
it's the symbol, "~". located just left of the "1" key on your keyboard. it's called a "tilde". saw some of the answers above. two tildes over each other means "congruent", not "approximately"
Two of these ~ ; one on top of the other.
approx duh
I tried to paste it and got gibberish

It is written like =, but in approximately, the dashes in the equals sign is replaced by two ~
I think you write two little wave like symbols which look like this ~ but you put one under the other, something like this:
~
~
Basically, whereas with the equals sign you would use two parallel horizontal lines with one directly above the other, with the "approximately sign", you use two wave-like lines (called tilde's, I think) which are horizontal, with one directly above the other.
Some of the other post have said that ~ means approximately, and
~
~
means congruent too, but I have always been taught the other way round.
Hope this helps!
it's a wavy equal sign.......~
...........
But I use this -------------- @
Have a Nice Day
The single ~ is used for "about" or "approximately" as in
the solution is about 0.5 M .the solution is ~0.5 M
The double version of 1 ~ above another ~ is used for "approximately equal to" as in
the concentration of acid is approximately equal to the concentration of alkali.
the concentration of acid ~~the concentration of alkali
'≈' approximately
Well I might as well chip in and agree with almost everyone else.
To say 'equals approximately 10m' you can say
Either
= ~10m [ie equals approximately 10m]
or you can say
≈ 10m [ie approximates to 10m]
('Bobanswers' reference to a congruence sign . unless the convention has changed since I learned it, the sign for that is like an equals sign but with three bars ≡)
you can write "approx" for short if you want.
