What you need to do is multiply everything in each set of brackets to the same lower number (common denominator) so..
(7/20 + 3/5) = 7/20 stays the same but times 3x4 and 5x4 to get 12/20 so first set of brackets now says (7/20 + 12/20) which = (19/20).
The same for the next set of brackets. Times everything this time the first by 9 and the second by 8 to gain your common denominator so
(3/8 x 4/9) turns into (27/72 x 32/72) work out this sum
answer = (864/5184) then reduce it down to get the lowest fraction you can = (1/6)
So your brackets now look like this
(19/20) - (1/6) Now multiply everything again (times by 3 and 10) to find your lowest common denominator
So we now have 57/60 - 10/60 = 47/60.
I have taken ages to work this out so you'll probably have the correct answer by now. But thanks for an enjoyable 20 mins of maths!

so your equation now reads:

72 & 20 both go into 720 nicely therefore:
19 / 20 = (19 x 36 / 20 x 36) = 684 / 720
12 / 72 = (12 x 10 / 72 x 10) = 120 / 720
so if: 684 - 120 = 564
then: 684 / 720 - 120 / 720 = 564 / 720
looks horrid doesn't it?
but these both divide by 12 nicely!
so you get: 564 / 12 = 47
and: 720 / 12 = 60
therefore your answer is 47 / 60
