Can the Laser Eye Surgery have long lasting side effects?
I would like to have it done but I am scared that they might miss my eye or something and that I might be left blind or something! Please advice as I'm really not sure about the whole procedure!

It has a very small risk as any operation does but its 99.99% safe and risk free, i had it done 3 months ago and its been fantastic, the best advice i could give is go to a reputable company and have consultations at more than one place and go with the one you feel the most comfortable with, the long term risks in 10 - 20 years time are not really know but they are very promising signs that its serious risk free. which country are you in? if its the UK then i thought optimax were the best out of the ones I had a consultation with as they were very unpushy and the consultation is done by the surgeon who will do the operation but some places you only see the optician and they try to get you to commit on the day. i had it done almost 5 yrs ago & i experienced no problems. that was the best decision i've ever made! i'm really happy w/ the procedure so i say go for it; u won't regret it.
Provided to go to a reputed doc, and the machine the doc uses is not more than an year old (old technology is replaced by better newer machines), its the best thing that could happen to short sighted individuals.

Since laser surgery has only really been going on for about a decade, we really do not know how it is in the long term. The other factor is that you cannot go above a certain amounts of G's after you receive the surgery- which makes me wonder why. The surgery itself is supposed to be relatively safe, but you may want to avoid the bargain deals.
Unless you are getting the laser surgery donw in a basement somewhere, there is almost no chance for them to miss you eye and blind you. The main complication from laser surgery is the halo effect. It usually appears at night with lights and is described as streaks of light radiating outward from a bright light. Kinda like when you are driving at night with a wet windsheild and you look at the street lights. Anyhow, that can happen in a few ~1% of cases. When you make an appointment for a consultation they should give you information on chances of this and chances that your eyesight will not improve, but for that they usually will do it again. Also you should consider doing one eye at a time, to be safe. Also, it is half price in Canada, so if you live next to the border consider having it done in Canada.

I hope not as I had it on both eyes back in 1997 - my distance vision is perfect from being very short-sighted. So far there have been no side effects at all and it was the best decision I have ever made. There is no way they can miss your eye. It only takes a few seconds, you don't feel a thing - Take the step and have it done, you will never regret it. Good luck.
I did hear that if you have cataracts later in life, that these can not be operated on due to having the laser surgery.
I have had lazer treatment on both eyes twice and still not right.
My wife had corrective surgery on her eyes when she was having to wear very thick glasses due to poor vision she had from birth. She had the procedure about 20 years ago and today she still doesn't wear glasses. She has had no problems at all. For her it was the right decision. You must educate yourself and make your decision based on knowledge not on fear or other peoples opinion.

I got given a huge list of possible side effects but then on asking found out that the chances of them were on average 0.9%.
Occassionally I suffer dry eyes in the morning and poking myself in the eye tends to hurt more than I remember but I've had perfect vision for 10 years now.
I went to an optician last year for a check up. he was sceptical as he had seen some bad results on some people, however, he was very impressed when he looked at my eyes and said it was a very neat, perfect job and I still have perfect vision. I had mine done with Optimax, as have a lot of my family and have all done fine. The patients the optician had dealt with who had bad jobs, nearly all teneded to be independant Harley Street type operations.
I definately recommend it as long as you are comfortable with the people doing it and informed. Optimax provide compulsory counselling before treatment and then follow ups for the next year or two.
Good luck, I understand your nerves but if your poorly sighted, like I was, it is a massive change, it helped me in my job and life as a whole. Even better than contact lenses.

My wife always had to put her glasses on before she got out of bed from when she was very young, but at the age of 44 years had both eyes done, this was 8 years ago. She threw her glasses away soon after the laser treatment with great joy!
Do your research as to who has the best results before doing anything and remember normal eye age related changes still happen.

i had it done almost 4 yrs ago with no problems at all. I highly recommend it if your dr says it's ok. do your homework, go to a reputable clinic and just do it! it's AWESOME!!!!!!
