How did the crocodiles in australia get the pox?

article in northern territory newspaper

Answers:
It is possible that this occurred because of humans creating anti biotics to prevent all of us and most animals from getting small pox. The virus then, through natural selection found a suitable host ( the croc ) and survived. Basically, the virus is dying out and needs a new host. Natural selection occurred, when this happens the most able organism survives, and therefore the one that was formed to attack croc's was best suited for survival it survived and is now living off of the croc. Since virus' like small pox use RNA instead of DNA to copy themselves, more random mishaps can occur, and that's why natural selection occurs so readily in small pox and other viruses. Basically it was a random variation of the small pox virus that got the croc. and now that this one is surviving others like it will survive and attack more crocs so try to keep the one with small pox isolated and burn the body when it dies to keep the spread to a minimum.
