There seem to be loads of Crane Flys/Daddy Long Legs around this year, why would that be?

Answers:
Did you know there is enough venom in a crane fly to kill you? Only it wont coz they aint got the strength to bite you.

Anyway onto the answer.. they just come out at this time of year thats all!
This is the mating season
Ive noticed that too! there is one flying around my computer right now!
i noticed that too, i squashed 3 in just one night!
There were loads last year at this time too, I think it is the heat that makes them breed more! I hate them, my dogs love to catch them and eat them! lol
This is the time of year when they emerge from the early form when the eggs were laid. They will mate and lay more eggs and usually in lawns which they seem to prefer. The can do considerable damage to lawns because the grubs eat away at the grass roots.
They are having a party
Well it must be breeding season and are these insects thick, you can prod them a few times and they don't move so you just squash them
they always visit in september
There are scores of species that come out all year long (even a few winter species). What you're noticing is the adult emergence of just one or two late-summer species. They'll feed on some flower pollen, mate, lay eggs and die.
