What considerations must be taken into account when classifying overpopulation on a global scale?

What I mean is how is it difficult to base overpopulation on the definition that it is when the population exceeds natural resources, for example one answer I thought of was that there are different amounts of the natural resources we need, e.g. there's more water than oil but we use both. I know this sounds a bit confusing, I struggled to figure out how to say it but any ideas would be great. Thanks.

First you would have to order resources into what we most need compared to their availability and renewableness. I would say that when considering resources such as oil it's over-consuption you are considering, not overpopulation, but I guess thats up to how you define how we 'should' live.
Over population on a Global scale is regulated by World Wars, Despotism and Desease. Therefore WE will run out before the resources do !
I think the word overpopulation is already too subjective. I would suggest that you try to look at it as objectively as possible. For example, don't automatically assume that more people is bad, and that using any resource is over-using it. If the environment can sustain people that are reasonably healthy, that should be the only criteria. Everything else is just too subjective IMO.
