What gases are present when there is life?

Answers:
all four of the gasses that make up the air we breathe, (or one of these four) that being Oxygen, Hydrogen, Heilium and Nitrogen. (a poisonous mix, I'm well aware of that) but all the same, we brethe those gasses in, and if there's life, one of the four is bound to be there

British Gas for one.
farts of gas and belching.
I believe that's covered in chapter one of your textbook.
Oxygen and Hydrogen

You need water to have the carbon based life forms you find on earth.*

*..and a little bit of fairy dust..
oxygen; nitrogen, carbon dioxide. (hydrogen, ammonia, and a few other trace elements)
oxygen, definitely
It is believed that free oxygen cannot exist in an atmosphere without photosynthesis. It would react with minerals, form oxides, and thus be lost from the atmosphere.

BUT - this assumes that ALL life throughout the whole Universe is the same as that on Earth.
loads until life dies.
For human life, the amounts of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are important. However there was life on this planet before oxygen was present. Most organisms give out carbon dioxide as part of respiration even when they don't use oxygen (plants do to, it's just that they use more in photosynthesis during the day than they give out). So the presence of carbon dioxide could be considered an indicator of carbon based lifeforms.

Of course there is always the possiblity of totally different types of life that we have yet to discover (whether on this planet or a different one)
