Will genetic surgery be able to cure excema now we have found the gene?

I mean a cure using a virus to repair the gene. I believe they did this with mice to cure a cancer causing gene.

Answers:
To cure a skin condition in an adult using gene therapy is going to be very difficult. You will have to modify every skin cell. The other alternative is to alter the germ line but that's against most peoples ethics. I'm not sure just how serious eczema can get but given the list of other diseases out there with a genetic component its unlikely to be high up on the list.

The better and more likely chance is that once a gene has been identified and its role in a process deciphered then ways circumvent the problem could be found using a more regular pharmaceutical. The topical application of some compound seems a good prospect.
Mice still get cancer.
I think genetic surgery is a bad idea. Changing one gene might cause more problems with something else. It might even cause genetic illnesses later down the family line.
