Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000 . Now add 30 .
Add another 1000 . Now add 20 . Now add another 1000
Now add 10 . What is the total?

add the 1000's together 1st then and then 40+30+20+10=100+4000=4100
I got 5000 doing it in my head and 4100 doing it on the calculator but I am diabolical at maths!
