Is it safe to eat blackberries picked from a busy roadside or will they still contain residues of lead?
Answers:
dont pick them from too low down, might have dog whizz on them
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, lead!
they are safe but wash them out carefully, a wee tip for doing this is to freeze them first and it not only kills any bacteria but it stops them bursting whilst being washed out..
enjoy
I wouldn't do it.
Washing them with bottled or heated tap water may help?
There is no leaded gas allowed in the US
There has been no lead in petrol for years!
Wash them first before eating them. Better yet, boil them up and make a nice blackberry jam. Don't worry too much about the lead. What about all of the pesticide and herbicide residues on the fruits and vegetables that you buy at the supermarket?
I don't think eating any kind of fruit found on the roadside will be safe because of all the exhaust that goes into the air, and whats in the air is in the water and so on.
wash them thoroughly before eating it
Just eat them, you can guarantee they'll be whole lot cleaner than the ones in the supermarket, which have had pesticides and god knows what sprayed on them.
take a little walk into the countryside, you will find better blackberries there. or my garden.
I'd wash them and leave them soaking in water and watch all those tiny insects come out of them. Then eat them!
I eat them all the time! But i am a fish though.
They might contain some residues of lead, and other heavy metal contaminants, not to mention being rather dirty. Better to pick them from somewhere less frequented. But if you can't, not to worry. You are unlikely to eat enough to damage you, and there may be other contaminants near farm land. Pick and enjoy. It only happens once a year.
There is still lead in roadside soil even though the petrol is unleaded now. Don't freeze them first, that would be a petty.
Personally I wouldn't, think about when it rains and all the cr@p on the road gets sprayed all over them, have you seen the windows of houses that are beside road? They're covered in grime. I can be choosy because there's plenty of countryside to obtain them from, they're nearly out of season now though so you'll have to get them soon. Leave them spread out on a tray for a bit though to give the bugs time to crawl out of them.
No, it is not safe.
I always thinks its a good idea to keep plenty of bottled water in your vehicle. If you wanted to eat roadside fruit while traveling ~ you can just rinse it off first
give them a quick wash under the tap to remove dirt and you should be fine
You don't need to worry about lead content from roadside blackberries. Firstly, you're not likely to eat blackberries in great enough quantities, and secondly, in markets where unleaded petrol is the standard, there won't be as much contamination as there used to be.
But watch out for the safety hazards of picking by a busy road! And wash tbe berries to make sure they're clean.
I wouldn't. too much emission toxin, dust, and other dirty matters.
Been doing exatly that a few times this year. No ill effects for me. But i do pick the ones outside of weeing range :-)
should be safe - its organic..
where do you get the idea of lead from? you mean exhaust fumes more like?"?!?
AS LONG AS THEY ARE WASHED THEY ARE OKAY TO EAT I HAVE HAD MANY IN MY LIFE AND STILL HERE
