Are plants affected by overhead power lines?
Is there any evidence that the growth of different types of plants can be affected in such situations e.g. due to magnetic fields etc?
Answers:
On a farm I worked on for 18 years some time ago , someone planted several poplar trees without realising that one of them was under high voltage power lines. They all grew nicely for a few years but then the one under the power lines started to get close to them ,but each spring as the tender new shoots approached the power lines they would just get to about 12 inches away and then would shrivel up and die back. All the other poplar trees in the group grew much higher than the power lines. It is possible that other plants might not necessarily be affected to the same degree.
yes - read the thomson report
well as we seem to be still pretty much a green country..then no
I believe that plants actually do better, and are stimulated by the electo-field. Do a little research and you probably find this to be true.
Only if they block the sun.
I am agnostic about most things, but this has been studied very intensively. It sounds so plausible that it can never be put to rest. Ranks right up there with "Deodorant causes breast cancer."
I'd recommend that you look at the "1999 NIEHS Report on Health Effects from Exposure to Power-Line Frequency Electric and Magnetic Fields." Link below
Aloha
Absolutely. It generates high frequency sounds that pass throught the body and affect bodily functions and cause irritability and sleeplessness. Having anything electrical in your room is bad for you.
It's very obvious due to the rows of stunted plants that follow the path of power lines.
