I really need to do my BMAT very well and i've only got a week, how can get a very high score?
Answers:
There are no guarantees, but i can tell you a couple of things that worked well for me on the MCAT (medical college test in the States).
First off, MAKE SURE YOU GET PLENTY OF SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE. I took the MCAT twice, and my score dropped considerably between the two tries, primarily because I got terrible sleep the second time. hence I regard this as of primary importance.
Next, study well the day before the test, and even the morning of the test. I'm a big believer in cramming, because you manage to "prime" your brain to think in certain ways. If you're in a math class (or "maths class" as you Brittons would call it ;)) and someone asks you a matrh question, you can answer it quickly, but if someone rushed up to you while you were grocery shopping on a Saturday morning and threw an algebra question at you, it would catch you off-guard, and you're brain wouldn't be able to come up with the answer as quickly or as accurately. So get your brain primed the morning of the test.
Next, caffiene can be your friend. I know that in the UK you probably are more used to tea than coffee, but within your limits, caffiene will help you focus for a study session.
And make sure you get a reasonable amount of exercise this week. It will help your mental functioning. This was another big difference between my two tries. The more you exercise, the better your circulation will be, and the better your body will deal with stress. Exercise!
Finally, I suggest prayer. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or if you believe in God's likelihood of intervening in your life. One way or another, prayer will help give you calm, clarity, and peace of mind. The benefit of prayer is manifest, and the existence of a God to listen and answer is moot.
Good luck.
Past BMAT candidates have been surprised by a large number of Physics questions. I suggest you familiarise yourself with your GCSE Physics - unless you're studying for "A" level
I did BMAT last year, unfortunately it didn't get me an interview for Oxford or Cambridge but I'm still at med school, up in Cardiff!
I think it's important to not underestimate the BMAT. It is ridiculously difficult, believe me. I do believe there are some past or practice papers on-line, on the BMAT website, which should help you with the style of questions to expect.
There isn't much you can do other than that, I don't think. By all means go over your GCSE stuff, and just look at the questions and get into the mode of thinking you're going to need.
When you're in the exam just stay calm and chill. Yes it's hard, but getting all worked up about it won't help you at all. Just think keep thinking clearly.
