What5 distance is 1 light year from earth in miles?
Answers:
The crow is indeed native to these shores. Try visiting more woody areas to get a decent sighting.
About 5 900 000 000 000miles
or 5.9E12miles
1 light year is the distance made by light for 1 year.
it is 5 878 499 814 210.014 miles
"The crow is indeed native to these shores. Try visiting more woody areas to get a decent sighting"
Please can I have some of whatever you're on ?
Crows know nothing of interplanetary travel, ignore their boasts.
One Light Year - The distance travelled by light in one year is 6 Million Million miles. Or 9.461x10,000,000,000,000 km, to be exact which is almost 6,000,000,000,000 miles.
Light year is a convenient unit of length in astronomy. " From the earth" has no meaning here
As I remember the speed of light is about 186000 miles per second. Multiply this by the number of seconds in a year and you get a very big answer
lolabola's answer's right
The light year is the distance that light will travel in one year, sounds simple. An additional extension on this is that it is the distance that light will travel in a straight line according to an outside observer who is not experiencing relativistic effects.
That basically means that the observer must be stationary and not in a strong gravitational field when he measures the time and distance covered.
Back to the topic, I think miles is a very bad unit to be using. I am a physicist and using miles as a unit of distance has all sorts of problems. Personally I would use the meter.
The speed of light is 3.00 E 8 ms^-1. to three significant figures
The light year is 2.37 E 16 meters. to three significant figures
I know this isnt the answer to your question, but it is the most scientifically correct answer
