Anyone know how much water (in pints) would weigh 1/2 pound?

Answers:
A gallon of water weighs 8.34 lb. (1 gal / 8.34 lb)*(0.5 lb) = 0.06 gal. A gallon is 8 pints, so (0.06 gal)*(8 pt/gal) = 0.48 pints, or nearly half a pint.
I'll just go and try it for you!

Well, that didn't work - I've not got a small enough jug. I reckon it would be 1/2 fl. oz, which is 1/40 of a pint or 15ml.
1 (imperial) ton of water = 224 Gallons

Do the sums
One gallon weighs 10 pounds so half a pound would be approx a third of a pint.
roughly 0.628 pints
Oh pet, I see you are a victim of our education system. The answer is, of course, 8 fluid ounces which is just under half a pint, a pint equating to 20 fluid ounces.
Since a pint is 16 ounces, a half-pint would be 8 ounces.thus a half pound. But technically this is not correct as it depends on the viscosity of the liquid, specific gravity. So you are doing volume or weight? They are not the same.
Half a pound is 227 grams. A pint of water weighs 568 grams.

A simple division shows that half a pound of water is equivalent to

0.400 pints (3sf)
Gallon = 8 lbs = 4 quarts =8 pints

Pint = 1 pound

Half Pint = 1/2 pound
In the USA where I live the pint is 16 oz and weighs one pound. So 1/2 pint weighs 1/2 pound. But in Britain it is different. I believe the Imperial pint is 25% larger, or another way of saying it is a US pint is 4/5 of an Imperial pint.
1 pint=4gills=.5682 dm^3
=568.2cm^3 [because 1cm=.1dm]
=.5682 lit
=.5682 kg
1/2 pound
=2.2046/2kg
=1.2023kg
=1.2023/.5682
=2.11pints
Depends on the country you come from.
We used to chant "a pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter"at school but this was before we went metric and did not have to worry about these problems. Our pints were Imperial which I think were different from USA pints.Using Imperial pints one pound would be 4/5 of a pint and 1/2 pound would be 2/5 pints.
1 Imperial gallon = 10 lb (of water) (See ref below)
Therefore 8 Imp, pints = 10 lb (of water)
Thus 1 lb (of water) = 0.8 Imp, pints
So ½ lb (of water) = 0.4 Imp, pints

Furthermore

1 US gallon ≈ 8.33 lb water (same reference)
Therefore 8 US pints ≈ 8.33 lb (of water)
Therefore 1 lb (of water) ≈ 8 US pints/8.33
≈ 0.9604 US pints
So ½ lb (of water) ≈ 0.4802 US pints
In Great Britain 1 pint = 1lb 4oz and is also 20 fluid ounces.
1/2 pound =8 ounces so 8 ounces = 8/20 = 0.4 pints.
In practise this would vary with temperature and US measures are different but in UK 1/2 lb is 8 fluid ounces.
1 gallon of water = 10lb.
Remember the old rhyme:

'A pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter'

So, a pint of water weighs 1 lb 4 oz or 20 oz since 16 oz = 1 lb.

Hence: 1/20 of a pint weighs 1 oz

Hence: 10/20 or 1/5 of a pint weighs 10 oz.
