Shadowing a doctor.?

Thanks for answering my other questions. I want to get a general feel of being a hospital doctor. I know all fields are quite different, but any ideas on what type of doctor i should shadow to get a diverse range of experience? thanks

a forensic expert !
shadow a general practitioner if the hospital allows you. You will have a wider view of different practices of MD's as u deal with multiple patient's problems.
an emergency Dr. that way if you are in e.d you get a wide spectrum of patients and problems. From geriatrics to mental health, a cut finger to a severed leg. Its all there.
I'd go with the emergency doctor. The ER is a gateway to the hospital, so you should see a lot of different kinds of patients - pediatric, cardiac, surgical, orthopedic.. pretty much everything goes through the ER if you spend enough time there.

If you decide to go into medicine, though, be open minded. I was set on becoming a family practitioner, but changed to anesthesiology. Once I got into an OR, I knew that was where I belonged!

Good luck to you!
If you do ER/ED in a city hospital you will see a variety of things. However you may also consider shadowing someone from Medicine who will do rounds on a variety of floors giving you an idea of what happens. I don't know who you were planning on shadowing but residents do the grunt work (if it's a teaching hospital) and you may want to follow one of them for a few hours to see what they do. And be sure to ask questions and pay attention during rounds.
I work in the UK in an intensive care unit. Occasionally students (about 17-18 yo) are allowed to shadow the doctors. I think the ITU is a good place to get a wide ranging experience of how doctors deal with medical and surgical problems.
internal medicine (guess u people in USA call it ER). this kind of dr is always in the hospital taking care of different cases all day. sou you could learn a lot. If u study in countries such as Guatemala (my country) u will find lot of gun shots, wich will help u to be agile with the hand by taking care of wounded. Also u will learn about hemorrhage, diarrohea, dehydration, accidents, heart attacks and lot of cases that makes u think and analize all te time and make ur knowledge richer than a dr that only takes the same cases all the time. Good luck
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHADOW A DOCTOR! They need all the light available for their life-saving work
I see you have been asking lot of queries around Drs training.Get on to gmc website or mmc(modernising medical careers website.
You are spending a lot of time for someone who doesnt use yahoo mail id as such!
Internal Medicine or an Emergency Room Doctor because you see all types of people and diseases. Ranging from common cold to life threating traumas.
