it is to keep vital parts of reproduction warm, though it is largely not required these days with clothes and all.

But keeping the testes and ovaries warm was it original reason for sticking around after other hair packed up and left town.

The good folks at the Columbia University Health Center went to work on this and they . uhhh . "sniffed" out the answer:

"After reviewing some theories on why pubic hair exists, it appears there's no definitive answer. It seems as though the prevailing theory relates to pheromones — scents that the body produces that can be sexually stimulating to others. It's thought that the tufts of hair that grow around the genitals, as well as under the arms, capture these erotic scents. Pheromones get trapped in the pubic 'do when apocrine glands release an odorless secretion on the surface of the skin that combines with bacteria decomposed by the secretions of the sebaceous glands."

during the stone ages i imagine people were going around naked and the women's private parts needed protection from little things creepy crawling into there? i imagine, from all the people overcrowding earth, the pubic hairs didnt do a good job?

It goes back to the animal instinct days.. Your body produces scents, called pheromones, that are designed to make you sexually attractive to others. Hair in the pubic area, as well as underarm hair, captures and spreads those erotic scents.
Keeping the stream of urine going in the required direction, into the toilet bowl. Without it, the urine sprays all over the place. Yum!

the reason is that back in the stoneage, when a woman squat to do her pee it would run down the hairs and not over her legs.l.o.l
In plain English, pubic hair, as well as armpit hair, retains odors which can act as sexual stimulants. We've been raised to regard such odors as repugnant, but that's a cultural thing. I know a number of women who think that fresh male sweat is a powerful turn-on.
