Where has the Moon Gone?

We live in Lanzarote and have been awaiting the siting of Mars next to the moon tonight but for the past 4 nights we have not seen the moon at all. We have a telescope ready for tonight but are wondering why the moon has disapeared?

Answers:
Oh dear, where to begin? First of all, we just past New Moon, so tonight, for example, the Moon will only be visible briefly after sunset. Full Moon will be in about 2 weeks; only at Full Moon is the Moon out all night long.

Secondly, Mars is on the other side of the Sun right now as seen from Earth. You've probably been duped by the hoax going around right now saying that Mars is closest to Earth than it's been in thousands of years, etc. That was true 3 years ago, but not now. And in case you are wondering, Mars will never look as big as the Full Moon to the naked eye.

Stop looking for Mars - go to this website and find out what to see witih your telescope instead.

I don't know. But reading this question made me remember that song 'Where have all the Cowboys Gone?' I loved that song!
grounded because of a security alert.
Have you got the telescope round the right way?
Perhaps its a new moon, i.e. the sun's reflection off the moon cannot be viewed where you are on earth, so you cant see it!
Last few nights the moon as been very close to the sun, so close thatit has not been visable because the glare of the sun washes it out. If you watch Sunday you will see a nice three day old moon right at sun set.wonderful looking thin crecent.
if you notice the price of cheese has rocketed up, so we can only assume its been cheese knapped.
maybe its orbit does not cross your sky.
Um i think the moon was there but it is called the dark moon? Im not exactly sure but i think thats y
aliens took cuz they ran out of cheese

it depends on where the sun is what season it is and what month it is

i havent seen the moons in about 2 weeks due to clouds and its a full moon so i cant see it
The astronomers decided that it was too small to be classified as a moon and covered it upwith a big black sheet so no one would have to look at it.Or it's really cloudy where you are.
its always present in the sky. definitely today u will see the moon. I wish u
The moon is in the waxing crescent phase at this time. Which may make it more difficult to see because only 8% of it is visible.
Take lens cap off telescope tonight !
it has disappeared behind the mouintain.. behind the cloud or behind the earth itself
Its there, but it is a new moon. The earths shadow is cast over the moon. If you look hard enough, you will see it.
It is a thin crescent at the moment, but was clearly visible last night in Cebu.
