Is the rise in sea level caused by us sinking?.?
Whilst answering another question it occured to me that the amount of extra people coming on to this island could be making us sink giving the appearence of rising sea levels. and nothing to do with global warming.
What do you think

I think that you have asked a perfectly good question. You quite rightly pointed out greater population, global warning and rising sea levels and tempuratures.Who knows what will happen in years to come. So I think your question should not be demissed out of hand. I only wish I had the to knowledge to answer your question so as to provide you with a satisfactory answer to your question.
What I would say however, is don't give up the swimming lessons just yet okay.
May see you swimming in the Lincolnshire fens in years to come. At the moment you can only tramp through the mud flats.
Bye xxx Gurgle. Gurgle!
no!!! the rise in the sea level is due to global warming and the melting of the ice caps!! WE ARE NOT SINKING!!
No, most certainly not, it is caused by people like you eating too much and getting overweight and that is what might sink us. It was all over the news yesterday about people becoming overweight, it is only because they are racial and prejudiced and therefore spend all their time sitting down moaning about immigrants instead of getting about and being active.
As it happens, the northern parts of the world are rising a little bit each year since the end of the last ice age. Areas like the Chesapeake bay are sinking slowly in response.
Ha ha ha ha ha..that's a good one! It would take some serious shift in the weight of the land to make it sink.plus there's a specific method they use to find out this information so they would probably notice if it's us sinking and not the water levels rising.
If you were living on marsh land, then you could sink locally, but that doesn't decide sea level.
possibly. We are up to 60m people
i think you are kookoo.
It's partly to do with the earth moving closer to the sun.
the rising sea levels is as a result of the ice caps melting in the north and south pole
We aren't sinking, the sea levels are rising because the ice caps are melting.
I think its caused by me sweating so much this afternoon...isn't it hot....been clearing the garden for a couple of hours & must have lost a stone at least!
The land is indeed subsiding / sinking in some places and the rise
of sea level due to ice melt today is insignificant..
In some places, subsidance ( sinking ) is caused or aggrevated by mans activities but not by his personal weight.
Lets hope so
The rise in sea level is all to do with global warming. The melting of the polar ice caps are expanding our sea causing the sea level to rise at half an inch every six months an inch a year which is quite a problem if you think how much water must cover the earth. That's why people are getting fanatical about pollution and saving the Earth. Another thing is since there has only been one recorded ice age on Earth there is no sequence to judge when to expect another one there could be one starting this minute or there could be one in another billion years for our great-great-great grandkids to witness no one can accurately estimate when or how do deal with another Ice age. Of course the government are prepared but they don't know when for!
I have another theory that aliens are dropping large rocks in the oceans causing them to rise relative to the land masses.
I certainly recall studying the weather using statistical methods and time series analysis. The available data was only 100 years long, and to predict a trend using that data was highly spurious and statistically contemptible.
I do not really know where all these theories come from, but lets face it they are just theories which are based on some evidence of proof. Theories are proved right or wrong only in the movement of time (where the future is what we are trying to predict).
What we do not know with only 100 years of data, is whether in fact there is an oscillating experience where the temperature rises over a few centuries and then falls over a few centuries. We do not know as we do not have sufficient empirical data to make such claims with any degree of certainty.
I do not work in the field of predicting global warming, and I expect that those that do will provide evidence to satisfy me in the fullness of time.
This is by no means a stupid question, beacause in the UK we are sinking, there is a pivotal point just north of the midlands, resulting in the south of the UK to sink and the north, including Scotland to rise. However, the sea level is just percieved to be rising in that instance beacuase we are effectively being lowered into the sea.
It is not due to the excess number of people however, because the density and mass of the Uk's crust is suitable to counteract bouyancy above the mantle.
Sea levels have been recorded to rise and fall over the millenia - once upon a time, most of the UK was under water.
we're not sinking but soon the world will flood cuz the north and south pole will melt and flood the world (no its not an evil plan)
No its to do with global warming, melting icecaps and stuff and possibly soon the obesity levels of the world
Armmmmm... what exactly do you mean by us sinking? I think the rise in sea levels is due to global warming because of the ice melting in the south and north pole and it will gradually flood the world as that water has no where to go unless peaople start thinking of what to do to save this planet from flooding.
