I threw the corpse of a road-killed hedgehog over a wall because a small hedgehog kept coming to visit it.?

I didn't want the small hedgehog to be a) traumatised by it's dead mother (I presume) b) run over itself.Maybe the little hedgehog can still get to it's mother's body.I don't know.but I only had three sheets of newspaper on me and the corpse was squelchy and putrid beneath.I didn't want it to leak through onto my fingers so I chucked it almost as soon as I picked it up. Also, I didn't want passing cars to see what I was doing.cos it looks wierd to be carrying a flattened hedgehog around.

What do you think - was this a wierd thing to do? Should I have done more.go back and move it somewhere further away when I have more than newspaper as protection.Do you do things like that?

Gypsies roll hedgehogs in mud and bake them over hot coals.
Don't you know people are starving in Ethiopia?
In view that I have no idea what you are talking about.. I think you did the smart thing.. so do not go back again.. just leave things as they were. are.?
id do it
All things considered, I think you did fine. You improved the situation. What else can anyone expect?
Vaya con DIOS
I think it was a very sensitive thing to do and quite brave of you to do it. I once had to kill a bird that had been caught by my cat by squashing it very suddenly with a piece of board. It was a horrible thing to have to do but as it was clearly in agony, I am glad I did it. You have saved the smaller hedgehog from seeing its mother rotting to nothing. Well done.
well it would have been cleared away soon enough anyway that's what magpies, flies, rats and other animals do. The thing I really would have done is to take the small hedgehog to a rescue centre as its obviously its baby and might still need milk and help. if you can find it please do take it somewhere that can help it.
ask your Mum - for various reasons
I think this was disgusting behaviour! You should have killed the little hedgehog with a spade to put it out of its misery. Now it has to live without mum and can't even nibble on her giblets.

Disgusting!
The right thing to do! Do not be ashamed of having feelings for hedgehogs. That is such a sweet story! One thing does bother me, flinging dead hedgehogs around is one thing..but why were you watching a squashed hedgehog (to notice the small one)?!
A little anecdote, not about roadkill.

This is true. A man had interviewed for a job during a Dallas market. The employer was coming to Houston for an unplanned visit in the middle of the week. The applicant, not yet hired, offered him a ride back to Houston which he accepted. On the way, a large turtle was crossing the road. The driver stopped his car, got out and carried the turtle to the other side.
When he got back in the car, the employer said, "You're hired. Anyone who can feel that much compassion, has to be an asset to my company."
it was a very good thing for you to do,not only because you probably saved the young one, but you would have felt guilty if you had done nothing,it shows that you are a caring person and need to do what your heart feels is right.don't feel weird.but now forget about it.
Not a pleasant thing to do but i think you did the right thing and probably spared the young one from anguish so well done.
Not weird though I doubt the people whose garden was over the wall were very happy :) You can look up hedgehogs sanctuaries on the web if you still see the little one and take it there. Not too much into it but one of my friends is a rehouser ie takes the strays into her garden and lets them free in her hedgehog house bizarre but seems to work. Shows there is still hope for the human race when we can see compassion in the world :). My weird thing I do, I never give money to people begging in the street I buy them hot food and a drink and give them that ( tip if you ever do this make sure they aren't vegetarian before hand . as I found out !!)
I guess you must live in Europe because hedgehogs are not native to the U.S. Do you eat roadkill there? Don't worry I don't either.
Often when possums are run over by cars here, there are small ones attached and people don't realize that possums are marsupials and hang on after the mother dies. Wildlife rehabilitaters can raise them to maturity, young hedgehogs can be rehabilitated also.
You have probably prevented the little one getting run over too. It hopefully wont continue to visit the spot now that the corpse has been removed. Poor wee mite, they must have feelings.
