Air conditioning. My windscreen used to be clear before I had it. Now it won't clear.?

Before air conditioning was around windscreens used to be clear when it was raining. You would just set the blower onto the screen and it would keep it clear. Now loads of cars have air con, when it rains the windscreen won't clear unless I use the air con all the time. In one car, if you set the blower to the windscreen, the air con comes on whether you like it or not. I haven't slept for six months worrying about this. I've wrote to my local MP who hasn't responded. It's not fair.

Answers:
On some cars when you engage the demister the a/c comes on automatically as it's hot DRY air and should demist it. If you have one of these cars where it does come on with demist try having it on the cabin as well as the windscreen maybe the a/c won't kick in.
Don't loose any sleep over it.

Too many gadgets too little choice
why use your air con ?? why not just use your demister??
if your air con comes on it is because you are using the max button my climate control works perfectly on 24
It`s a condensation issue. My garage explained this to mee, but I didn`t quite understand. Opening the window slightly for a few mins clears it though!
You are clearly not using the air con correctly, ac actually dries the air that's why in some cars it comes on automatically when you put the air to the screen.
You should use ac all the time, even when warm air is required, if you don't the air pipes will get damp, you get a smell like cat wee and the misting up becomes worse. You may also have the recirculation on which again will make the damp worse as you are simply recirculating warm damp air, make sure you switch this off, it should only be used when in traffic or an extremely hot day. If used when very hot you will be recirculating cool air so the ac can be turned down a bit.
Condensation is your problem - have you got your controls set to recirculate, if so, cancel this and have through flow. This will stop condensation, as all you are doing is recirculating very damp air,
Hot Tip
Smash front windscreen you'll have no more misting problems.
Write back to your MP tell him your not voting labour any more, cos they suck.
Air con blows heated or cooled air. Heated air can contain much more humidity than atmospheric air, and, when it touches the windscreen (which is colder than the heated air) the humididty condenses on the screen. In order to remove "fog" from the screen, adiitional amount of heat is needed, and it is taken from the windscreen, lowering it's temperature, producing more humidity to condense on it.

Remedy: Turn cooling on, for a while, until "fog" from the screen disappears. Then turn heating on, to heat the screen. No "fog" will appear in that drive, because You have blown all the humidity from the air and from air con system. After that, You can turn air con off, and leave only ventilation to blow air to the screen. It will remove humid air from the screen and help evaporation of "fog" from the screen.

Well if its not fair it must be raining so do not sleep for another six months Bye I am off to zzzzzzzzzzzz
Switch the air con off and open the window. It works for me.
Use the air con, it dehumidifies the air. If you turn it off and blow air to the screen it is passing over the very damp air con condenser first and getting wet.

Most modern cars are designed to have the aircon set to automatic and left on all the time
it blowing cold air on the screen, get it fixed
I assume you are talking about a situation while driving in England. If you direct the blower on to the windscreen and turn off the air conditioner you should get hot air from the engine blowing on to the windscreen . This should create the desired visibility.
this happened to me in my previous car and it was a real pain in the neck esp as ac uses up the petrol. Our new car does not have ac and the window clears perfectly. Get a new car
