Lancashire high spot?
What is the highest point in Lancashire - England (and how high ?)
Answers:
County top
Being a lancashire lad I should be able to help you:
The highest point of the ceremonial county is Gragareth, near Whernside, which reaches a height of 627 m (2,057 ft)[11]. However, Green Hill near to Gragareth has also been cited as the county top.
The traditional highest point in Lancashire is Coniston Old Man, however that became part of Cumbria in 1974. Since then Green Hill (32 miles south of the Old Man) has been cited as the county top for Lancashire, although the summit is on the border with Cumbria. Another candidate for the title of Lancashire county top is Gragareth about 2 km southwest of Green Hill. Gragareth's summit trig point, at 627 metres (2057 feet), lies a couple of hundred yards within Lancashire.
Another nearby county top to Green Hill is Whernside (736 m), which is the highest point in North Yorkshire.
The summit of Green Hill, apart from being relatively dull, provides many excellent views in all directions ranging from the Howgill Fells and Lakeland fells to the north, the Pennines in the east, and a majority of North Yorkshire to the south.
The highest point within the historic boundaries is Coniston Old Man in the Lake District at 803 m (2,634 ft). [12]
