Leave your answer in standard form?
Hi, I have 3 sums, please note this symbol ^ means "to the power of"
1) Express the following in standard form 385
2) Express the following in ordinary decimal form 2.5 x 10^-6.
3) Evaluate, leavig you answer in standard form 1.765 x 10^ -3 - 5.47 X 10^-4
Answers:
1) 3.85 x 10^2
2) 0.000 002 5
3)
1.765 x 10^ -3 - 5.47 X 10^-4
= 0.001765 - 0.000547
= 0.001218
= 1.218 x 10^-3
What is standard form? Scientific notation?
The next thre answers below each has an error.
Chris says "your trying" when he means "you're trying"
mysstere fails to put the third answer into standard form.
The others are correct
Windy uses 10^3 in the third answer when it should be 10^-3.
sounds to me like your trying to get the world and all his brothers to do your homework for you, try working it out for yourself?
1) 385 in standard form is 3.85 x 10^2
2) 2.5 x 10^-6 is .0000025
and finally,
3) 1.765 x 10^-3 - 5.47 x 10^-4 =
.001765 - .000547 =
.001218
Regards,
Mysstere
1) 3.85 x 10^2
2) 0.0000025
3) 1.218 x 10^3
1)3.85x10^2
2)0.0000025
3)1.218x10 -3
1) 3.85 x 10^2
2) 0.0000025
3) write 5.47 x 10^-4 as 0.547 x 10^-3
then you have (1.765-0.547) x 10^-3 =
1.218 x 10^-3
Why should i do ur maths hw?
yes you can leave an answer in standard form, i am doing A level physics right now and use it a lot, you shouldn't lose marks for leaving an answer in standard form unless is specifically states to use the actual number. the key things to remember are that the number has to be between 1 and 10 and that it is the decimal point which is moving, either to the right or left. if the answer in standard form is larger than the actual number it is a 10^-6 and if it is smaller it is 10^6. hope this helps xx
1. 385
3.85 x 10^2
2. 2.5x10^6
0.0000025
3. 1.765x10^-3 -5.47x10^-4
0.001765 -0.000547=0.001218
= 1.218x10^-3
This is cheating and you know it.
