12 ounce can sells for $4;95 or an 8 ounce can sells for $3;25,which is better to buy?

The math illiteracy displayed by these answers is astounding! Only Aug and Rosey got it right. I'm very scared for the future of this country based on the responses and totally illogical 'reasoning' given by all the doofuses who are saying the 12 ounce can is the better buy. DO THE MATH PEOPLE!

Here's another way to look at this: What if I wanted to buy 24 ounces of this drink? I could buy two 12-oz cans or three 8-oz cans.

2 * $4.95 = $9.90 for 24 oz.
3 * $3.25 = $9.75 for 24 oz.

Therefore the 8-oz can is the better deal. Simple, right?
Depends. How much do you want?
Per ounce, the 8 ounce can is cheaper, but only very slightly.
If you want more than 8 ounces, it would probably be better to get the 12 ounce one - as the difference in only very slight :)
Compare 4.95/12 to 3.25/8 to answer this.

$4.95 ÷ 12 oz. = $0.4125 per ounce

$3.25 ÷ 8 oz. = $0.40625 per ounce

So, though the costs are very close, the 8 oz. product has a slightly better price-per-ounce cost.

the 12 ounce can would be better to buy.
The 12 ounce can.
Your better buy would be the 8 ounces for $3.25 depending on how much you need. Divide $4.95 by 12 and see the total and then do the same thing to $3.25 by 8 to get your answer.
For an $1.70 you can get 4 oz more. So get the 12oz its a better deal
well 8 and 12 are divisable by 4. so u have to think that 12 has 3 x 4 and 8 has 2x4

so if u think that 8 is efectively 2 out of 3 parts of 12 . then it works like below -

4.95/3 = 1.65

3.25 + 1.65 = 4.9 so its better to get 12 ounce as you are effectively getting 1.70 for the extra 3 ounces as appposed to just 1.65. but very close
$3.25
$4.95/12oz=$.4125/oz
$3.25/8=$0.40625/oz 8 oz is a better buy.
all of the people who said the 12oz one are saying bull to get points.its the 8oz.look:

4.95/12= .4125 per ounce
3.25/8= .40625 per ounce, making it cheaper
a) 12 ouce = $4.95
1 ouce = $0.4125

b) 8 ouce = $3.25
1 ouce = $0.40625

Therefore I'll suggest you to buy the 8 ounce for $3.25 as is cheaper
good gracious do your own homework
its depends on how much u need and how soon the content expires if not useful.
However, if we imagine u would find it all useful, then
12 ounce is $4.95 i.e. a little over 41 cents an ounce.
on the other hand, 8 ounce is $3.25 i.e a little less than 41 cents an ounce.

Go for the 8 ounce !!
Really depends on the level of food security the prospective buyer has but the more obvious is to steal both cans.
The 8oz can based on unit pricing

The 12oz can if the recipe calls for that amount

Purchasing the larger can is a "lost opportunity" you are making an interest free loan to the supermarket / producer. It is probable that you would make better use of the £1.60.
