Why is string theory not falsifiable?
Answers:
because string theory deals with dimensions and universes outside of our own. For the same reason that God cannot be proven not to exist, all conceptions of things which are outside our universe cannot be verified or disproven scientifically
I guess it is still very vague and no equations to back it up. It can be almost anything it wants to be. Why do you need to falsify it ?
It is because the basic part of it, the strings, are SO SMALL. And they occupy 11 or so dimensions.
Theories have to be proven.can you think of a way to prove any part of the string theory? I can barely get my mind around it as it is.still working on it, although it does make some sense to me!
You have to prove it to falsify it.
There is no room in a string bikini for falsies.
At the moment, we lack the technical know-how and material wherewithal to make the equipment to test many string theories.
After all, they don't have anything material to contriute to ordinary situations; the theories we have already work for those. String theories addess rather exotic circumsntances, and they are just hard to experiment with.
At the moment string theory is just wild speculation - even using the word theory is really making it sound more solid than it actually is.
If that sounds negative then you have me totally wrong, all theories have to start with wild speculation and some will prove to have merit. Nobody yet has managed to push string theory far enough to produce any testable statements so it is not falsifiable. It might never be in which case it will become a mathematical curiosity but there is a chance that it will lead somewhere which is why people are working hard on trying to predict something using it which will bring it into the realms of science.
