How many noughts are there in a billion?
I was told, in America it is 100 million whereas in the UK it is 1000 million, which is it?
Answers:
Somebody told you wrong. It's 1,000,000,000
Doug
A billion is the same in America and the UK. Its 1000 million. (1 with 9 zeroes after it)
I believe a billion is 9 zeros (1,000,000,000)
this is a million-> 1,000,000
ten
well you are right it is different in america to the uk.
It used to be that a British billion was a million million (12 zeroes), but we have now mostly accepted the inevitable and gone along with the American-led consensus that it's a thousand million (9 zeroes)
it's 9 zeroes in both countries isn't it?
Let's see. Naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught, naught. 9
The person who told you that it's different in the USA and here was nearly right. In the USA a billion is a thousand million but here in the UK it is a million million, so not everything is bigger in America ! Although when it comes to money its accepted here that a billionaire has a thousand million (that way we have a few more billionaires).
A billion is 1 followed by 12 zeros. Americans say it's 1 followed by only 9 zeros, but that's because they can then say that they spend so many more 'billions' on the environment, etc - and they're fools, too.
too many to count i no good with maths
UK 1 billion = 1 million million, (1 followed by 12 zeros)
US 1 billion = 1 thousand million, (1 followed by 9 zeros)
US version is generally used.
A British billion is a million million, so that's 1,000,000,000,000. The American billion is a thousand million, 1,000,000,000. Maybe that's why there are more American billionaires?
there are a billion, duh!
no but actually there are 9. wherever you are.
1000 million is a billion. the brits are always right because we are the best!!
even Golding said so in 'Lord of the Flies' and i quote "we're not savages, we're english, and the english are best at everything".
i realise that he refers to english rather that british which includes wales and scotland so dont point that out!!
1 billion = 1,000,000,000
Nowadays, both the UK and the US use the same system.
I agree with cheaper b
Originally it meant a million million but we have recently come to use the American thousand million so the answer to your question is 9 zeroes, 1,000,000,000
people dont know the meanin of billion in America? the answer is 1000, 000, 000
In the UK it was 12 zeros - which is why its a billion (Bi -million you see) and a trillion used to be 18 zeros (tri-million). But as usual, the Americans who have no concept of ythe language they actually speakk decided to change that so now a billion is onnly a thousand million and a trillion is only a billion. Perheps they had to do a performance review and fiddled their figures like I do!
