Why do we need leap years (they occour once every 4 years normally) and what is the diffrence between the ye.?
Answers:
one year equals 365 1/4 days every 4 years we have a year with 366 days to make up for the 1/4 day
every year we are short 1/4 of a day so every 4 years we have to make up for the day that we lost. so there is an extra day in the year. its pretty simple to understand once you know why it occurs! hope that helped : )
This may have been covered in 3rd grade. but in case you missed it;
it takes the Earth 365.25 days to go around the sun. The leap year makes up for the 1/4 day lost every year. In other words it adjusts the real time with the time (astronomical) we (humans) have established.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/leap_year.
Without them, You would be celebrating Christmas during summer. Unless you are in OZ then it would be winter.
I really can't be bothered answering this. It's too basic. What do they teach in school these days innnit?
It is just a societal measure of time.
A leap year (or intercalary year) is a year containing an extra day, week or month in order to keep the calendar year synchronised with the astronomical or seasonal year
the earth is slowly slowing down so every year is longer than last, eventually we'll have a leap year every three years instead of four.
